Atropa belladonna- Deadly nightshade is my favorite plant to work with and my primary plant spirit ally. Belladonna is an ethnobotanical par excellence, especially for witches. The spirit of the plant is analogous to the battle-sorceress of the plant realm. A fury, a harpy, redolent with sovereignty. Commanding both life and death. Belladonna is the dark goddess embodied in botanical form and connects to the currents of mythology associated with the witch goddess. Deadly nightshade is almost invariably associated with witches and their malefactors magic. I use belladonna for all sorts of things. Oils of influence, seduction and domination. Maleficia- hexing, cursing, crossing. Brings a subtle secrecy to maleficia workings, it’s beguiling qualities lulling them into a sense of security. Divination & Spirit work: opening the psychic senses (applied as an oil or ointment), incorporating small amounts into incense. Chthonic divination especially (ancestors, shades of the dead, nature spirits, underworld spirits) Connecting with deities and spirits associated with witchcraft and magic: Circe, Medea, Hecate Chthonia, Hel, Bellona, Furies, Harpies, Valkyries, Fates, morai, the devil. For protection and passage in the chthonic realms. To enter these places you must separate yourself from the things that make you a living human. You must become like the spirits to enter their realm, and deadly nightshade helps achieve that. (Used to anoint the body prior to shamanic journeying) These are just a few potential uses. Deadly nightshade is a magical catalyst, meaning it is one of a few herbs capable of empowering any working, albeit with a chthonic, Saturnian and Thessalian nature. Belladonna/deadly nightshade ointment available. Huge thank you to @alicia_mckenziee for giving me this bad ass deadly nightshade tattoo! It’s right next to my belladonna plant spirit glyph. This tat was really special to me and something I did entirely for myself. It’s been a big year and things are just starting to take off. Thank you for being a part of my journey. #deadlynightshade #atropabelladonna #dwale #devilscherry #witchingherbs #poisonpath #deadlynightshadetattoo #veneficium #banefulherbs #plantspiritallies #plantspirit #belladonnaspirit #poisonousplants #toxicology #ethnobotany #greenwitchcraft https://www.instagram.com/p/CNthm2xHIxC/?igshid=i7ld0g8fynz4
Bane wort is already showing them their new hangout. My art supplies are in goblin hands. Morel has found my highlighter and is digging in his ear. Dwale has burgled a paintbrush and is pretending to paint the art I was sent by their creator. #banewort #dwale #morel #whimsicalcreaturesus # #atropaarmy #belladonnadollsgoblinarmy #goblindoll https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxx8mRogNze/?igshid=rzduoufbq9pl

Before the advent of general anaesthesia, it is generally believed, a patient undergoing an operation could have expected little in the way of support other than from the bottle or from an ability to “bite the bullet.” But there is compelling evidence of an earlier age of anaesthesia. Descriptions of anaesthetics based on mixtures of medicinal herbs have been found in manuscripts dating from before Roman times until well into the Middle Ages. Most originated in regions of southern Europe where the relevant herbs grew naturally.
From this article (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1127089/) about the use of an early anaesthesia referred to as “dwale.”
