Henbane (Hyoscyamus Niger) can be either annual or biennial, the latter being more desirable according to herbal medicine makers. Biennial henbane starts as a rosette or circular cluster close to the ground before sending up its stalk. It has a slight resemblance to mandrake leaves in this stage.
