Things were... upsetting, to say the least. Matthew definitely wasn’t having it, that was for sure. He just didn’t feel up to doing much of anything, really, other than wandering around the castle, periodically knocking on walls and avoiding monsters. Hey, mindlessly walking around is one thing; getting into fights was another.
Checking his phone, he decided to make for the save room. He didn’t have any hearts, not anymore, but... It’d probably be just as nice as the other save rooms, right? Just to hang out in.
Pleasantly surprised to see the statue upholding a warm fire, he went ahead and decided to get closer, only to spot a familiar face. “H-huh? Oh!” He flimsily held up a hand in a motion akin to that of a greeting, even if it possibly came off as more of a show of passiveness and peace. “K-Kouki, I... um, only j-just got here, so... if! You wanted the space t-to yourself, I-I can leave...!”

A whole week had passed since the beginning of the game, and no participants had killed yet. That’s not to say the week was deathless, though; one Sherlock Holmes had helped his associate Asougi Kazuma breach the game. While Sherlock was killed by the gamerunners as punishment, Kazuma was forced to stay and participate, keeping the number of players unchanged.
After a week of no player kills, the host Persephone messaged everyone, summoning them to her quarters. However, they all notice that Persephone was nowhere to be seen, and the door to her quarters is closed for the first time since they’ve arrived. However, the door next to it -- one that was previously locked, is wide open. The next best option is to take a peek in there, right?
Much like Persephone’s room, the room is scarcely decorated. The thing that sticks out the most to the group are the mirrors that line the back wall and the candles that illuminate the dim room. In the center of the room is Persephone, sitting upon a rug. She seems to be holding something in her hands -- another mirror, perhaps? She looks up from the floor, facing the group before finally speaking.
“I’m glad you found the Scrying room easily enough.” Like always, her voice carries its soft and flat tone. “It’s not far from my quarters, so I knew if I told you to look there, you’d get the right idea.”
Then, she goes silent. The air is tense, at least on her end. Taking a deep breath, she looks away from the crowd of people.
“I hate to do this, but…” Her voice trails off, and her discomfort becomes obvious. “Nobody has killed yet -- and for that I am grateful -- but… I have no choice but to offer… motivation to get the killing game started.”
Red eyes stare down at the mirror in her hands, fingers running over the golden ridges that surround the mirror’s reflective glass.
”This is a fact that I have not publicly shared with you until now, but I have the ability to see the future. I am the one that predicted the rise of Despair and the war against Hope.” It’s a difficult memory for her to look back on, but it’s the truth.
”I will be calling on you, one by one, into this room to show you your future. When you arrive, please tell me which mirror speaks to your heart. You will be able to choose any of the mirrors in this room. Once you have chosen, I will predict what the future holds for you.”
“For some of you, you may find that your future is unsatisfactory. I am willing to tell you the full story -- what brought about this outcome, and how to prevent it if needed. That is a kindness that I will extend to you, in exchange for your participation in this killing game.”
Tearing her eyes away from the mirror in her hands, it’s obvious that she isn’t happy about this. She clears her throat, as if feeling herself choke up, before lowering the mirror in her hands to the ground.
”I will be starting the readings shortly. Please, bear with me and be patient. That is all that I need from you, so you are free to leave.” Standing up, she closes her eyes and motions to the doorway, as if emphasizing her point. ”And if you have any questions, you are free to find me here until the readings have been completed. Have a good evening, and I’m sorry.”

The Negaiboshi awards ceremony was supposed to be a day of celebrating the school’s academics and attendees. But with thirty-three people disappearing the day before, a threatening cloud hung over it. How do you celebrate a school when its people vanish without a trace?
Some time later (hours? days? weeks?) those thirty-three people awoke in a mysterious temple. A single woman stood at the end of the room, as if she had been waiting for them to regain consciousness.
"It's good to see that you've all awoken safely." Her voice was soft and flat, piercing red eyes focused on the strangers before her. "I'm sure that you all have questions, and I'm happy to answer them for you."
The crowd before her spoke up, expressing confusion and disbelief.
“Where exactly are we?”
“Why were we brought here?”
“Who are you?!”
The woman waited for the murmurs to die down before clearing her throat to speak.
"My name is Persephone, and I will be your host. As for where you are..." She paused, glancing around the room with a sense of familiarity. "This is a temple belonging to Querencia de Sol, which is where I was born and raised. This place -- and especially this room -- is special to me."
Persephone had a serene energy about her, but with a deep exhale she accidentally revealed her nerves. "You have been chosen to participate in a game... A killing game, specifically." Her voice was as flat as ever, not wavering with any type of emotion. "I'm sure you all know what that means. That's why you've been brought here. You are not allowed to leave, either."
She looked past the group, through the corridor, and to the exit of the temple.
"You may try, but surely it will bring death. I do not think that is the 'escape' you are looking for. You have better chances of surviving if you cooperate."
"You will be trapped here until there is a murder. Following the discovery of a body, there will be a trial where you work amongst yourselves to find the culprit. Â If you are the culprit and you are found out, you will be executed as punishment. However, if you get away with murder..." She averted her eyes, clouding with sadness. "The rest of you will be executed, and the culprit will be free to leave. Those are the rules. The way that you go through with the murder is up to you, as long as someone is murdered."Â
Everyone gathered here were not at all settled by her explanation, but what could they do in this moment? Persephone was not immediately hostile, and killing her would certainly cause consequences. So, slowly, the crowd exited the room. Might as well explore the place if they’re going to be stuck here a while, right?
Maybe this temple has some hidden secrets of its own.
CHAPTER ONE: START
———————Â
> With the start of Chapter One, Despairing Vacation 3 has officially begun! Please throw your confetti now.
> Now that the game has begun, the spectators will be brought together to observe the game. They and their chats will all be held in the dedicated spectator server.
> Remember, the game participants are not aware that their game is being broadcast!
> There has been a new character added to the game: Shadow is now here! Why don’t you talk to them? They weren’t around for the prologue, after all.
> The chatrooms and face to face threading channels are open for business. Go in there and have fun.
> As always, thank you for playing and watching the show. Please enjoy!
Negaiboshi is a school unlike any other. Not only is it the pride of the Dice family, with incredible security and even more fantastic faculty, but it’s beloved by all who attend it, serving as an important part of their community.
And that love for Negaiboshi and its community is clearly displayed at the Sakura Ball, a fantastic night of games, music, and merriment arranged by a Negaiboshi student and her adoptive family.
With such a large event going off without a hitch, it seems that those threats from two weeks ago are indeed nothing but a bluff. And so, with no danger in sight, Negaiboshi prepares to hold its prestigious awards ceremony. The ceremony is a celebration of Negaiboshi’s academics, where the Dice kids themselves name specific people who best represented specific points of the school’s academics.
The day before, though, many people who intended to participate suddenly...disappeared. As if plucked up by ghosts, thirty-three people disappeared from Negaiboshi’s community, with no memory of how they were taken away.
Where are those people now?
Let’s find out.
PROLOGUE: END
———————
> Welcome to the end of the prologue! Now that all participating characters have been removed from Negaiboshi, the start of Chapter 1 will be posted later today.
> Spectators and players will still share the main server for OOC interactions, but all IC interactions for spectator characters must now take place in the dedicated spectator server. Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty to keep you entertained there!
The Dice siblings - Ace, Jack, and Queenie did everything that they could to ensure Negaiboshi’s safety. This was their biggest priority when first opening the school, besides keeping their late mother’s dreams alive and finally allowing them to happen. The school has been open for just a few months, now - and is almost finished with its first semester. It’s clear that even if you aren’t part of the faculty, or part of the student body, that Negaiboshi’s had a lot of thought and love put into it.
It’s clear that the headmasters all care for this school greatly.
When the vague threats of something happening happened just a few weeks ago - everyone received a warning that something terrible would happen, in just about two weeks.
It’s been just a little over two weeks since those initial messages were first made… yet, nothing’s happened.
Could those threats have just been that? A threat, with nobody to follow up on it?
It’s hard to tell, really. But since there hasn’t been a follow up to the threats, the school’s campus is now open to the public again - even with heavy security to ensure that those who absolutely aren’t allowed on campus don’t come in.Â
Tensions are high, and people are still scared.
But Negaiboshi is safe, is it not? Ace Dice promised that everyone would be kept safe, and he doesn’t intend on breaking that promise anytime soon, if he can help it. This school means everything to him - it means everything to Queenie, and to Jack - and to everyone staffed at the school.
Hope’s Peak may no longer be a thing, and there may no longer be a thing such as “Ultimate” students anymore. Yet, Negaiboshi promises success for its students, and for it’s staff members, and the Dice kids don’t intend on letting that drop anytime soon.
Things are safe here… aren’t they?
Those threats made a couple weeks ago… they were just that, right? To scare students? To get under the Dice kid’s skins?
Who knows?
…..
PROLOGUE: START!!
---------------------
Hello, everybody! Welcome to the prologue of DV3. With this intro being posted - it’s time to officially state that DV3 is now officially starting.
The prologue will last from March 24 until April 4th. The end of the prologue will be posted the following day, April 5th.
Spectators and main players will be sharing the same server for IC interactions until chapter one. Once chapter one is posted, spectators - and those who have spectator characters, will be linked to a separate spectators server, where all interactions between spectator characters will take place.
NPCs will be available for threading, and will count towards the activity check.
Speaking of activity check - due to this being the prologue and to allow people to get a chance to get used to the group, we will be more lax with this activity check. You will not be receiving any warnings about your activity if you may not be as active if you’re a main player.
We will be hosting a member run event during the second half of the prologue, starting on March 29th. More information about the event will be available as the event draws closer!
Be sure to check #channels on the main discord, as they have been updated to include the prologue channels!
FOR MAIN PLAYERS: Although we can not force you to focus a good chunk of your time on playing your main character choice for the killing game, we would prefer if for the prologue, major character interactions you have are with your main character rather than your spectator character, if you are playing a spectator character.
Most importantly - have fun! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the mod team if you have any questions about anything. We’re all here to help!Â
