My dad carved this out of basswood for my birthday this year! He was going through some of my artwork and asked what my favorites were and I mentioned this one which he then printed out and used to make this for me! Super touched by the gesture. He’s a pretty great guy sometimes. :]

My half-dwarf half-duergar Durim, chopping wood as winter quickly approaches. His friend Everton the human mage stops by to check on him and maybe peddle a few of his wares. Durim’s lucky to have him since he is out cast from dwarvish society.
More of my random Ascana stuff
A quick overview of the civilizations of the Ascana Peninsula:
Ascana League Primary Races: Humans, halfings, dwarves, gnomes An alliance of 107 city-states. Each city has a communication tower, called a Beacon, to reach the others.
Durim Primary Races: Dwarves Mountain folk who live in small settlements and distrust outsiders. Strongly concerned with family history and bonds of kinship.
Seshuran Primary Races: Elves Nomads who typically travel in small family units. They tend to value exploration and novelty.
Galsic Clans Primary Races: Goblins Loosely organized clans who build ramshackle settlements all across the peninsula. Their culture values excitement and pleasure above all else, even survival.
Illati Tribes Primary Races: Orcs, humans Hill folk who lay claim to vast hunting grounds. They are highly territorial, and are also known to change their borders suddenly.
Skadara Primary Races: Lizardfolk, goblins An island nation, inhabiting an archipelago off the coast. They often choose to work short days at a grueling pace, in order to make more time for rest and play.
Valdir Primary Races: Hobgoblins, humans A nation across the sea that maintains outposts along the Ascana coast. The peoples of the peninsula know them mainly as pirates and raiders.
The Underground Commonwealth Primary Races: Goblins, hobgoblins, orcs, lizardfolk, dwarves, gnomes, elves A vast and diverse civilization built in a sprawling network of caverns. The nation was founded as a haven for those who valued freedom over their own safety.
Don’t try to shake a dwarf’s hand
The Durim kiss casually. In case you haven't seen my previous post(s?) on them, the Durim are a predominantly dwarven culture in a DnD setting I'm working on. And they don't see kissing each other's faces--whether on the cheeks, foreheads, or lips--as romantic or particularly intimate. It is a gesture of affection, to be sure, but equally appropriate among friends, family, and neighbors, as it is between lovers.
Kissing hands is a very different story. Most gestures that the Durim see as romantic or intimate involve the palm of the hand: cupping your hand against your beloved's cheek or the side of their neck, kneading their shoulders or back with the heel of your palm. Holding hands is almost indecent to do in public. The Durim are not great producers of love poems or romance novels, but when they do wish to evoke deep, intense, intimate love, they speak of knowing the feel of their lover's callouses.
