     Galar has a rocky history with dragon types and their settling. As they expanded the villages into towns, then cities, and finally into the metropolises seen today they encroached on territory that had been settled by dragon types for centuries. As cities were built and habitats lost, dragons types became seen as pests.

     These dragons were from a wide range of biomes, all of which can be seen around Galar. This meant that there were few to no pure dragon types. The most common dragons seen in Galar today are the Applin line, the Noibat Line, the Axew line, Duraludon, and the Goomy line.

     The Applin and Duraludon lines are native to solely Galar; their ties with society go back almost as far as Galar was settled and have allowed them to escape the ‘pest’ label. These two lines evolved to either blend in or assist humans, allowing them to be favored and accepted. Other dragon lines, such as Deino and Dreepy, were the opposite. Due to their aggressive tendencies and protective instincts they almost always attacked first*. These lead to hunts and their current endangered status in Galar.

     The Goomy line is a unique example of evolution among dragon types. Normal Goomy are found around Galar, but these are actually an invasive species released either by irresponsible trainers or from the ill-informed project for repopulating the species. Galarian Goomy are extremely rare but can be found solely in watery areas. [Refer to chapter 5 of “Natural Subspecies Native to Galar“ for a full explanation.]

     Turtonator are not an invasive species and migrating bales can be seen stopping on the shores of Galar, but increased numbers of residential individuals have been observed due to release by irresponsible trainers.

      Modern Galarians are trying to turn back time and live in peace with dragon types so they may once again roam Galar. Raihan is seen as a figurehead in this movement, but even he does not host a full dragon-type team.
