The band au~ headcannons. Because why not.
Duncan learned drums out of spite. His parents wanted him to learn an instrument, so he went for one of the loudest ones he could- drums and a french horn. He would practice them late night/early morning. When his obsession for all things punk and rock picked up, he dropped the horn and focused solely on drums.
There was a programme in Juvvie where this one band would come in and help teach the kids, hoping to spark an interest and focus their energy on something more productive. Duncan was in this programme a lot. It's where he learned to sing, and to scream properly.
Trent was just a really passionate kid and wanted to learn as much as he could about music. His primary instrument is the guitar, but he does know enough about other instruments to be able to write good sheet music
He was also a choir kid back when he used to attend church when his grandma was still alive. After that though, he still kept on practicing singing, taking on courses.
Neha's Amma had all of the siblings trained in classical music, as well as vocally when they turned 6. As the youngest, Neha had the smallest range of choices for instrument but went with the harp because people can't ask her to play it out of the blue. She can't carry it around, and people are more likely to have a piano than a harp. Plus she gets to sit down for it.
However, in the band itself, her vocal mimicry and wide range is put to use more than anything, singing as backup/secondary since she can just fill in for what's they need- male, female, high, low, random guitar riff etc
Courtney's parents had her learn violin as an 'intelligent' instrument, so she put her all into it. It got to the point where she was actively winning competition seasonally. She actually starts to play the electric version after she starts dating Dincan.
Courtney joined a musical theatre group as an outside of school extracurricular and was cast in a lot of lead roles, she's particularly trained for ballads and belting but definitely has the softest voice over all
They all have different music tastes (or none at all) so the very first compromise they did was that per 'album', each person gets to be in charge of a song. This means that it can range anywhere from being a heavy metal scream fest to the most soul wrenching soft ballad to the weirdest yet ethereal thing you've ever heard.
In world tour they're primarily singing with no use for instruments, but afterwards they kind of just put the person who doesn't fit the song's vibe on 'triangle duty'- this is Neha more often than not
As part of their 'mandated bonding', Chris essentially arranged a playdate with all of the parents where they take turns visiting each others houses.
Things are really tense at first between the group due to previous interactions, mainly ending up as Courtney and Duncan Vs Trent and Neha
Courtney and Neha are the first to start getting along thanks to studying, dragging the other two along. Duncan starts to reluctantly do better in school
Eventually Trent and Duncan get along too, they start off on edge (with the whole Gwen thing) but have one bonding moment and are suddenly acting like besties
Courtney and Trent kind of shared common fears over Duncan and Gwen in action so they had a solidarity over that, but bonded more over being the responsible ones
Neha and Duncan just have the weirdest relationship. They don't have a singular key 'bonding moment' like all the other pairs and don't act like they can stand each other most of the time, but they also team up a lot in the show when it comes to messing with people
In fact, in the show there are constant jokes about how close they all act- like asking who's really dating who when they see 'Noah' and Courtney snuggling. But the only confirmed couple at those points would be Courtney and Duncan
Trent has his sexuality crisis during his drama bro era, but doesn't actually do anything until WT. And how does he resolve this? By listening to Courtney's suggestion and kissing his teammates!
Speaking of, when Tyler walked in on Duncan and Trent kissing, he had no idea that 'Noah' and Courtney were also in the room.
Funnily enough, Duncan thought Tyler had seen Neha (who had her wig off) and that's why he started threatening him- she should have the choice to come clean herself after all. He didn't even think about what the situation looked like
What really got Tyler quaking was when Trent came over and put a hand on his shoulder, staring at him with a blank face before asking 'you're not going to tell anyone about this, right?'
So when he reveals it in the next challenge, everyone is staring at Courtney nervously, wondering how she's going to react to the news of Duncan cheating but she just sighs in relief. "Oh, that's what you saw"
Courtney and Trent actually being wary of Alejandro because of Duncan and Neha. The exchange literally goes:
N- "that guy is just my type, like 10/10 would bang..."
D/N- "I don't like/trust him"
D/N- "so you're not stupid after all"
C- "I mean, I guess he did flirt with me after I said I had a boyfriend....and he's been flirting with Bridgette, Leshawna and Lindsay.... Oh my God is he a homewrecker?!"
T- "Good thing me and Gwen broke up then ahahahahaha... Yeah, uh, I'm just gonna trust you guys on this and keep my eye out"
