finally got to see the exhibition before it's over! Duchamp was one of the artist I studied in depth during my art history class back on college and his vision opened up a lot of things for me 💥 . . . #duchamptopop #nortonsimonmuseum #pasadena #losangeles #california #626 (at Norton Simon Museum)
Duchamp to Pop at the Norton Simon museum in Pasadena.
From Dada to Surrealism to Pop Art. A visual connection of the conceptual art of Marcel Duchamp to the modern art of Andy Warhol and his peers.
top- Some of the Rotoreliefs, Optical Discs, 1953 by Duchamp Made of cardboard and meant to be spun on something like a turntable to see the optical illusion. - Close up of Andy Warhol’s famous Brillo Boxes, 1969
middle- Untitled, 1969 by Wallace Berman.  A verifax collage. Pretty fun to look at up close. (Verifax, early form of a copy machine.)  -In the Manner of Delvaux, 1963 by Duchamp. (Inspired by the surrealist painting L’Aurore, 1937 by Paul Delvaux.)Â
middle- Boîte Alerte, 1959 by Duchamp.  I loved these!!  Created for a Surrealist expo in Paris, it was full of letters, telegrams, and postcards by the artists in the show.Â
bottom- The Librarian, 1960 by George Herms  An amazing assemblage of books, photos etc. - Followed by Andy Warhol’s famous soup cans, 1968 -and a photo of the man himself, Marcel Duchamp!
Highly recommended #nortonsimon #duchamptopop #duchamp (at Norton Simon Museum)
