no i am not a man hater. i am a hater of pervasive and systematic patriarchal inequality. but since your going to call me a man-hater anyway, imma rock the shit out of my flyass MISANDRIST shirt and then laugh at you.
New hobby: Ruining mens' expectations of me.
So I ask my boss (I work in food prep) where he wants the box of chicken. "You just wrap it, I'll put it away," he tells me. "It's too heavy for you." Now, my boss is a pretty big guy, about 6'5", and it's a decent sized box packed full of raw chicken, but I am not exactly diminutive, 5'8" if not particularly muscular.
I finish and wrap the chicken, but I need to fill another box, and my boss is not currently in sight to put the chicken away. I pick it up to put it on the next counter over, to make space. I discover that the chicken is not only not too heavy to move to the next counter, but not too heavy to carry across the room to the fridges. In fact, my arms won't even be hurting.
My boss comes back right as I have it in transit, and goes, "Whoa! Phoenix is strong!"
Across the room, the dish washer adds, "Phoenix is a black belt. She's my bodyguard!"
"Wow!"
And so on. So I say to my boss, "Now we've established I am not intimidated by the weight of the chicken, where do you want it?"
And he tells me. And I put it away.
I love blowing mens' expectations for me out of the water.
Knowing how to captivate an audience is an essential skill—and one that can be learned. Whether you're directing volunteers, corralling family members or angling for the corner office, here's how to be the person worth listening to
This is a really good article. Don't let the story beginning or the detour into shopping tips slow you down--every woman and trans* person needs to read this article on how to be listened to. Learn how not to fall into traps. Learn how to handle both introverts and extroverts. Click on the links about speaking through your body language and telling an effective story. Don't allow the socialization you never knew you got to tell you that you're not worth listening to--it comes out in your body language and the way you handle a conversation, and then other people start to believe it. This is a subconscious thing on both parts, so you have to consciously overcome it. Please reblog and help smash the patriarchy.
Sometimes I have to remind myself not to take out my frustrations about the patriarchy on my cis-male cat.
But seriously, dude, check your privilege. I’ll pet your face when I’m ready to.
