On the last christmas vid, deceit shows up on the end card and tells Virgil to control his personal grow âor who knows, soon you might be rid of us allâ. as Deceit, by definition, speaks in lies, this was probably a threat, telling Virgil to quit being on the Light Sidesâ side, or the Dark Sides will show up more.
And he is keeping that promise.
The next video, Deceit shows up, for an entire video, and not only troubles Thomas badly, but also continues to threat Virgil.
âIt takes a liar to know a liarâ
âYouâre not a beacon of truthâ
âOh, so youâve never been reluctant to share anything with the group, then?â
âWhat? I only meant your nameâ
Deceit is making it incredibly clear that he is ready to tell all of Virgilâs secrets. All the times he says that, Virgil is trying to interfere, to debate his arguments. You better shut that mouth Virgil, or theyâll know it all.Â
And then, the next video, the other dark side shows up. And he says Deceit told him to. And Deceit told him to in a very specific way. He didnât just say âI donât care, do whatever the fuck you wantâ. He said, and I quote
âYouâre wanting to be more honest and be direct dealing with your issues? No longer will you deceive yourself or the ugliness within youâ
And Remus also says âSure, people donât like me much Thomas, but thatâs just because Iâm honestâ
Deceit probably told Remus to say it like that. To be very clear this was about honesty. About the lack of deception. Deceitâs trying to prove his point. But hey, it didnât exactly work.
Deceit wants to prove you canât be honest about everything. You canât just go out telling people whatever you think. You could hurt people, or freak them out, or gain enemies. To some extent, and I repeat, some, because Deceitâs truly always seems half shockingly right half terribly wrong to me, I agree with him. I know some people who believe telling people âYou look like an ostrich on that dressâ is being honest. I disagree. Sometimes, you must lie, for the sake of a role in society, or other peopleâs feelings.
So, heâs saying âYou want me to quit hiding things, Thomas? Fine! Here! You are a bad person, with fucked up thoughts, and fucked up parts of you. Do you wish me to stop lying? Alright. Then deal with the fact that you. Are. Messed. Up. Why donât we end my job right here, and you stop lying to yourself? Are you a good person?â
That question. Is Thomas a good person? Second video in a row it showed up. And Thomas is clearly bothered by it.Â
Itâs the same thing as Virgil. Stop taking the other side or theyâll all know your secrets. Stop making me have a small part on your life or you wonât be able to sleep, youâll have to face the consequences of knowing everything there is to know about you.
It is very evident Remus and Deceit are working together. They want power. Power to choose what content theyâre making. Power to choose what Thomas says, or doesnât say.
[about hiding what youâre doing]âOooh, how fun? You know who could help us with that?â *cue Deceits theme song*
(Also, thereâs the theory/headcanon that Remus and Deceit are dating â or something in that area â because a) Remus jokes about being handed 2 Ds at once, and snakes have 2 Ds and b) it sounds reasonable ok we just ship every side in this fandom)
And Remus very clearly keeps threatening Virgil.
âGood seeing you again, Virgil. It was just like old timesâ
âThat sounds like a YOU problem. Orâ smiling devilishly â a [Virgil] problemâ
âVirgil, youâve never been one to soften the truth, why would you aspire to be so... boring?â
âDespite his best efforts, Virgil could never stop being the bad guy!â
But... Deceitâs plan didnât quite work. Because they established that Thomasâ thoughts donât make him bad, and he shouldnât lie about them. If he feels troubled, he should seek a friend, or a therapist.
And Virgil shoots back. Like Bela Thorne leaking her nudes so she doesnât get blackmailed, Virgil tells Thomas his secret (by the look of Patton and Logan when Remus talks about âold timesâ, they already know, and Roman once said âyouâre better than the othersâ so he knows, itâs only Thomas left to go). Unless he has more secrets, Deceit canât blackmail him. And iâm proud of him for stepping up, opening up and taking the power away from Deceit.
