Speckled Racer - Drymobius margaritiferus

Drymobius margaritiferus (Colubridae) is a diurnally active forager found in a wide variety of habitats ranging from lowland tropical rain forest, pine savannas and thorn forest to pine woods and cloud forest .

This species occurs from southern Texas on the Atlantic coast and southern Sonora, Mexico on the Pacific coast, south through Central America and into South America along the Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Speckled Racer 

Drymobius margaritiferus (Colubridae), known as the Speckled Racer, is native to the Americas. The broad range extends from southern Sonora and southern Texas southward through western, eastern, and southern Mexico, throughout most of Central America, and as far south as northern Colombia, South America.

Drymobius margaritiferus is a medium -sized, quite slender snake. Scales on upper surface are weakly keeled, dark brown to almost black, with yellow or orange center, usually bordered by green or turquoise color anteriorly. Underbody is lighter color, cream or yellow. Most scales on head are outlined black.

Quite possibly the rarest snake in the United States, the Speckled Racer is a tropical species found in US from only a very select few localities in extreme South Texas.

Drymobius margaritiferus (Colubridae), as is scientifically named, has a very attractive color, dorsal scales are black-edged with a yellow spot in the center and a blue base creating the appearance of an overall greenish hue. Ventral surface is white to yellow to green [1].
