I was rereading the okton scene in Kings Rising, as one does, which led to rereading the drinking scene, and then I was rereading the scene where Damen puts Laurent to bed and I had a sudden poignant flash of Laurent’s perspective when he wakes up.
Damen is so cognizant of being businesslike and getting out of there in his own POV, but Laurent doesn’t remember any of that.
So all he knows is he wakes up alone, feeling terrible. His elaborately laced clothing is undone, which is something he wouldn’t be able to manage drunk and on his own. Also his jacket is hung over the back of a chair and he has a bowl to vomit into. Someone else was clearly there though he doesn’t know who.
He tries to figure it out by asking his guards, and he tries to figure out how to ask without revealing too much of the weakness that he can’t remember what happens, so he is like, “I need a full list of who was in my rooms last night.”
And the guards are like, “No one, until you returned with King Damianos, and he said not to let anyone else enter.”
Laurent’s heart just stops for a second....
