#driver licence

I’m turning 22 years old in July and I don’t have my licence, but that’s mostly because I have a medical condition. (in my country driving schools for people with disabilities are almost 0, only in big cities I think). so my example won’t fit very well. but!

my cousin is turning 24 this June and she doesn’t have a driver licence. she’s healthy beautiful and has a decent work place, earning her own money. she’s also in the last years of a good university (master years, I’m not sure if that’s in English too) so if she’d wanted she could have that licence. so you don’t have to worry it’s something out of common. I know plenty of other people over 20 years old who are just fine.

now let’s take it bit by bit.

first of all it’s about the practical side: do you have a car you could use? having a licence but no car at all will be pointless. let’s think you take your licence this year but you won’t have a car till the next 5 years. you will forget some basics, and even if you won’t your brain, in its fear, will tell you that. “you’re not ready” “you forgot everything” “it’s more than sure you’ll make an accident” and some other bad stuff brain use to whisper to us. so in the end you’ll end up taking another school for licence and just waste some more time and money

if you do have a car, think for yourself: do I need it? would you find it easier to have your own car and move around the city, or would you want to depend less on others and go whenever and wherever you want? if the answers on these questions are yes, then you should consider getting the licence. if not, it’s not worth trying to be good in the eyes of your family or your friends if YOU are not feeling good.

a little advice on this side, Annony, is that this life is short and ugly af anyway, so if you don’t live for yourself, take care of your own mental and soul health then no one will. I know it’s easier said than done and coping with pressure is such a toxic environment for your brain honestly, but better fight than letting yourself down for others. imagine you are your friend, you need to give courage and help your friend when they’re down right? you can’t let them down. then don’t let yourself down either

now if you do think of getting a driver licence after all, because it would be a good thing for YOU not for others, then again it’s gonna be a “you” thing. you need to tell yourself it’s gonna be alright. in the first year you can use that sign on the car that will point to others you are a beginner and they will take you easy. accidents are hard to make when you are driving with so little speed or are using your both hands on the wheel. (that’s just an example, beginners usually do that, more advanced people are using just one hand on the wheel, the other being on the gear shifter. or on the window, lol). even if you do get in small accidents - at the speed and the care you will be driving with - will end up in a scratch kind of accident, nothing serious.

we are not talking about accidents made by others that involve you. someone told me bad things happen to those who are expecting them. so don’t say “I hope I won’t get in a big accident”. instead go “I’m a safe driver and I don't do risky stuff, I’m not even driving out of town so it’s less likely to get in a car accident”. the way we phrase things for ourselves makes it easier for brain to leave the anxious and annoying stuff aside.

again I hope I didn’t bore you with this huge thing, but I don’t feel wise enough to tell you do or don’t do that. instead I’m trying to give you my opinion and my advice that slowly will make you realize the answer you were seeking for.
