The Drinkable Book
The Drinkable Book - what could be better? Each page is it's own water filter, while the text on the page/filter teaches people about basic sanitation! #cleanwater #drinkablebook #drinktothis #judgeabookbyitscover
Brutal Simplicity applied to… SAFE WATER (Cannes Special)
The constant shortage of drinkable water in third world countries is still major problem. The charity Life is Water together with scientists and advertising agency DDB NEW YORK came up with a simple solution which can filter water and warn about the dangers of dirty water: the Drinkable Book. Every page functions as a filter which purifies dirty water, while the message on the page educates about the dangers of drinking unsafe water. By simply adding a special coating (which only costs pennies) this book revolutionised water purification, providing access to simple and cheap water sources. This project was honored with a Gold Cannes Lion.
FILTER TIPS
Strained any good books lately? If not, then take a leaf out of the Drinkable Book, which not gives you tips on sanitation and water hygiene – but can purify contaminated water through its pages. Literally. Printed on filter paper coated with silver nanoparticles, this ingenious tome costs pennies to produce and kills 99.99% of waterborne bacteria. Cholera, typhoid and E.coli all removed as the H20 passes through it. Turning a new page for those around the world for whom clean, safe drinking water is a story of daily struggle. One of the best things i've come across. Major step into helping people without clean water.
