coding is being annnoyyyyyinnggggg
code is fixed! he works now! :]
excited because this is big for me. so timeline of events:
1: I follow a tutorial because im new to godot. when i get to enemy configuration, it doesn't work. i redo it. it still doesnt work and i cant figure out why
2: i use a different tutorial. this tutorial is 2yrs old, and uses an older version of the game engine. i get to the enemy configuration: it still doesn't work! it completely freezes up my game.
3: I, by myself, create some code to try and figure out how to do it myself since neither older or newer tutorial works.
4: THE CODE WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no errors raised, no freezing the game. fucking works. hell yes.
okay okay. so! in Learning How to Code i have set 3 things i wanna do. the first of which i just came up with like 30 minutes ago
1: smaller game, probably a 2d platformer. lets me learn some more code while doing something original but not too hard. it’ll help me see how much i can do in a certain time period as well
2: fnaf fangame. will definitely help with learning a lot of code because of the ideas i have for it + i get experience in 2d and 3d godot with this. also it’s cool and i think child me would flip his shit if he heard about this. specifically this would help because in this i’m gonna experiment with code for minigames i wanna do in Number 3 (below)
3: Oc game that i’ve had in mind for a whiiile now. I have plot ideas and such for two games and i’ve been wanting to do it. However! i do not have the skill set for it right now. so, 1 and 2 come first. This’ll be the Big Game w/ lots of story + playtime + etc. I’ve heard from several people that you shouldn’t start with your biggest/best idea first, so this comes last. Plus that gives me time to figure out details for it.

breakdown of the past week!
I've started the game. like actually holy hell i've started something instead of just making concept art/sprites
created 2 whole levels
coded player behavior/movement
coded collectables
coded enemy behavior movement (figured out by myself. because neither tutorial worked.)
coded trap/pitfall behavior
coded a main menu w/ placeholder icons
coded a pause menu
coded level switching
figured out how to add walls with no collision (Hidden walls, basically)
bonus: figured out how to make sprite sheets myself instead of exporting each frame of the gif!
and. apparently i discovered a glitch where the lung spawns sideways. no clue why that happened it never has before!
i do still need music... but that means i gotta make a track for it, which i am working on. i'm also going to polish these levels; add some extra text to the levels to act more tutorial-like, as well as sound effects for enemy deaths, and smoother transitions between levels. But besides that, i dont think i did too bad for my first time ever!
things have Fucked Up. however i remembered to back up a file beforehand so i have it restored to the pre-fucked up version thankfully <3
level switching achieved!
