From my ‘Rooted’ series. Good old fashioned drawing on board and plaster bas-relief. Rooted documents a journey along a Dominican road fringed by gravity-defying trees, their roots exposed. The crumbling soil barely keeping hold. Rooted fastens trees to the soil and forms an allegory on belonging and reminiscing. After the last devastation (Maria you know who you are) some of my inspirations would have been torn and heaped along shores like matchsticks. But nature has a way of destroying and renewing. The shoots give way to saplings, then new trees frame the skies or fringe the man-made highways.
