My best shot at Portrait Club this morning
I’m finding zoom drawing sessions with #draw_brighton a terrific resource. They offer many different kinds of sessions – life drawing, clothed figure drawing, portraiture etc – at low one-off prices or covered by very reasonable Patreon membership. As usual, not many are well timed for the Southern hemisphere, but some are, and they go to a lot of trouble to make sure you can take part anyway: sessions with models are recorded and made available for later use; links are emailed; and the details for different time zones handily flagged (not always simple - seasonal time adjustments can overlap); and there’s a variety of tutors, tasks, times and approaches. Portrait club involves drawing each other in a small breakout group - about 10 minutes per person. I’ve honed my portrait drawing on drawingisfree sessions timed by playlist - much more urgent, with 3 or 4 minutes at most to catch a likeness, so this feels very leisurely. But I note with interest that the extra time doesn’t result in an observably superior result from me. Now I won’t willingly miss either of them.
