Today is the day. Draco has prepared. He can do this. Hiding in the alcove, he waits impatiently for his target. He's been waiting thus far for the season he can certainly wait a few more minutes. He knows Potter comes down for breakfast first on the weekends, Granger will be at the library working on next week's homework, and Weasly is still in Gryffindor tower, probably still unconscious to the world.
He knows because he had s̶t̶a̶l̶k̶e̶d̶ followed the golden trio the past few weeks in preparation for this. Hagrid and the professors had finished all the decorations last night, and this morning, every main entrance has a single bundle of mistletoe hanging in the middle. Each one had certain conditions to escape from the enchanted space formed once two students entered its proximity. Draco had done extensive research (asked) what each one would be, and he knew The Great Hall entrance would require a kiss to escape. This particular one only set off once a day, so it was vital he got this right the first time.
Draco hid further, spotting Potter coming down the stairs, unaware of what was about to happen. The Great Hall wasn't deserted, but it was early enough that a few students were already inside minding their own business. The hall leading in was thankfully deserted, but Draco kept his wand handy just in case anyone else got any bright ideas about trapping Potter.
There he was! Potter walked passed and Draco swiftly left his alcove and walked slightly behind. Potter eyed him suspiciously out of the corner of his eye, but Draco paid no mind he swaggered on not a care in the world, his robes swishing around him in a fetching manner and Suddenly, they were caught! Draco controlled his face not letting any of his triumph through.
Potter looked around warily.
"What did you do, Malfoy?" Harry spat out. Draco channeling his father's best impassive face carefully raised a well sculpted brow and simply pointed up. Potter still wary took a quick look, a confused expression replacing his suspicious glare, but before he could ask, golden letters appeared before them both.
"To pass ahead and move on through,
A kiss between you two is your due."
Potter's eyes widened, and he looked around as if looking for a way to escape. Draco grinned at the shorter male and, in his most arrogant silky voice, asked, "scared Potter?"
Potters eyes hardened, looked Draco right in the eye as he answered back
"You wish." In an unexpected move, Potter pulled in Draco by his tie. One hand went to the back of Draco's neck and the other to Draco's hip, bringing their faces close together.
Draco momentarily stunned noticed when Harry's resolve began to waver and in a moment of pure instinct raised one of his hands to Harry's cheek gently tilting his head and in a barely there movement brought their lips together in a featherlite touch of lips that left his head reeling and stole his ability to breathe. They stood there for a moment? minutes? Draco wasn't sure, but at one point, both had closed their eyes.
When had that happened? Draco opened his eyes to be met with Harry's dazzling green eyes, the hand at Draco's hip squeezing lightly.
"Well done, gentlemen." The prim voice of Professor McGonagall broke through and both boys jumped apart.
"You do, of course, realize that you could have just kissed each other on the cheek or the hand." She smirked, passing by them both heading toward the head table. Leaving behind two pink cheeked boys.
Harry scratched the back of his neck while Draco cleared his throat and brought attention back to him.
"Well, Potter, that wasn't terrible." He turned on his heel and briskly walked away from The Great Hall. He did not do anything so plebeian as flee. No, he did not.
"Wait, Malfoy, aren't you going to eat?"
Draco ignored him after all he got that he came for, and he had to plan for tomorrow.
