SO; I do have some thoughts about this.

I think that if it were within the first arc (aka where the movie takes place in the fic) he'd be able to move on quite quickly. Unfortunately, this would lead to his fate being the same as all the other thing assimilations in the movie. As the assistant is the only person keeping him on the right path by his drive to protect them from harm. He's only fighting his instincts to assimilate others through the assistant, and therefore I think he'd be found out very quickly and killed.

However, if we're talking much later on (after the first arc) where there's now many more complex feelings involved, it would be a much worse fate for them. They'd never recover and would withdraw into some small dark hole where they'd attach themself to the infrastructure and let their organs spread out to cover it in one big mass. Think like the stuff in 'below the deep'

He'd not have the strength to try and assimilate anyone and there wouldn't be anyone around for him to try. But, I do think he'd probably consider absorbing the readers body into this mass, so that they'd be able to lay to rest together (if they had died in this case).

ahhhh so this one is ilya and a fucked out and happy shane. ilya is gripping shane like he wants to crawl into his ribcage or maybe pull one of his ribs out so ilya can keep a piece of shane with him always, so much of their relationship relies on physicality but the distance takes it from them and what better way to get it back than getting to hold his bones in his hand, a part of him to hold on to so that no matter how far they get from each other no matter how separate their lives have to be, he’ll have shane’s rib to anchor him in place and guide him back home to his love

for context the title is a reworked quote from an episode of the magnus archives where a character is trying to remove a piece of his body so that he can use it as a magical anchor to guide him back to his reality (he’s about to enter a nightmare dimension). the monster that ends up doing this for him takes a rib for himself too as payment (I added the bit about love). pls has anyone listened to this show I wanna have hollanov thoughts about it
