Arkalyn is my bro @kylinvartilo 's character! :D
Dis boi has had /quite/ the time, but later in the story gets an ace in the hole bf so it's all good XD
Unus Annus, or as I call it
Drake & Josh, but if it was on Fox instead of Nickelodeon
I’ve seen more than one person throwing around the defense for Tim’s possible new alias being “Drake” of comic book fans being resistant to change, but like, at least in my case, that’s not really how it is.
I didn’t complain when Jon got aged up because I saw that as furthering his character when he used to be pretty bare basic.
I didn’t even complain when I heard about “Ric” because I thought maybe id be a short interesting storyline. (Obviously they botched it, and they’re still doing it, sadly)
Even when Bart got aged up, like a decade ago, a character more closer to my heart then Jon, and I found out they did that, I didn’t mind too much. I didn’t mind till I read it because I wanted to give it a chance. It was bad because he was out of character during it.
But there’s good change, bad change, and stupid change.
Jon still has potential to be good even if people are resistant to it. I don’t feel like enough been done yet to really qualify that for either side.
Ric and Bart being the Flash obviously turned out to be bad.
Changing Tim’s Robin/Red Robin to “Drake”? That’s just stupid. There’s not even room for suggesting there’s potential with it, because it was such an empty pointless moment, that it feels like it was only done to satisfy the writer who didn’t like his last name.
---
Name why it’s actually good.
It’s not furthering Tim’s storyline. Red Robin was his coming of age story. Going by Robin more often makes more sense considering he was miserable during Red Robin because he got kicked from being Robin, he wanted to be Robin. If you thought two Robin’s was confusing, he’s still Red Robin every other time to avoid that.
This was a random moment that did nothing for him.
I highly doubt the overprotective bats would just name one of themselves after their own last name too.
The “most dangerous bird” line was just ridiculous considering it’s a duck.
If you give me a “it’s not that bad” argument then it’s probably not that good either for that to be an argument with a point.
--
When it comes to something like this, it’s not a matter of “oh it’s change”, change happens all the time. Relationships break off, characters move, characters leave or change teams, lately even constant costume changes.
It’s just a matter of rather or not it’s good change.
Something that feels like it was done for the betterment of the character or to further a story.
This name change feels like it has nothing to do with anything because it’s so forced.Â
Tim been doing fine by going by the name he has for over 20 years (if you think of him as Robin) or 10 years (if you think of him as Red Robin), he’s been doing just fine at being a self-sustaining character and his name never been a problem besides fandom jokes at his expense that are done for giggles instead of actual actual critiques (mostly). It’s been fine without a change.
Especially when the change is gonna be worthless.
You can’t bounce every problem people have with a comic as “oh people are just scared of change”, that doesn’t always apply.
Every now and again change is just bad. You can’t say “people are just afraid of change” like that means the change is good, and people’s feelings are silly.
--
When you read a character for so long you don’t want them to be treated like they can be changed when ever. That makes it seem like they’re flimsy and not well-respected.
I paid money to read this series for well over half a year now.
Id be nice if more people than just the colorist cared about it.
It’s fiction, but it’s fiction that’s been going on for decades that people fell in love with and put their money into. Like it’s ridiculous to pull a stunt like this. Tim’s something that makes people happy, stop doing random crap to make it so they’re not happy.
--
Random changes that don’t benefit anything aren’t changes that are good to act like it’s a matter of being afraid of change.
It’s just not enjoying dumb change.Â
Change only done to satisfy a singular writer that wanted to do what ever he wanted isn’t something to celebrate. It gets obnoxious.
There’s a difference between that and any ol’ change done for the sake of a story. There’s not a story with this, there’s not a point with this. It’s just randomly done.
---
When reading the issue, everyone that hears the name “Drake” in it just goes “Oh yeah that is a good name” like Bendis is patting himself on the back for picking the name out. It played out like a joke in a comedy were the joke is the characters are idiots, except it’s supposed to be taken seriously instead.
(Or maybe it will be a joke and Tim gets to stay Robin/Red Robin, I won’t complain. I won’t be upset I made these posts. Sometimes it’s okay to be wrong.)
It’s not like the name change to “Drake” has any actual relevance to the story yet. It just sort of happens because “oh why not”, and that’s horrendous storytelling.
It’s bad writing. It’s cheap writing. It’s not good. It’s random. It’s contrived.
Of course people are gonna be upset when a writer treats a comic or character like a play thing they can do anything with. It’s a character that lived on for decades without needing to be changed, because that’s how people loved them, and they were great for telling stories as is.
I’m sure Bendis isn’t looking at this like he wants to destroy Tim.
But that doesn’t mean he did a good job.
Why play dumb to it?
