So I am reading a new book, which has a very horrible villainous dragon in it, who is literally both made of and devours nightmares as well as people, all that good shit, y'know how it goes
And he's also so wildly funny. Literally held a guy's hand just to freak him out. Made fun of a drug dealing pimp's manners right before graphically setting her on fire. Allegedly tricked his own (also draconic) mother into eating herself in some Looney Toons mythology-type shit. He commits psychological mystic warfare by telling his pact-bound subjects that "just because he's on a diet, doesn't mean he can't still look at the menu" when they're 1000% convinced he's going to eat them even after he *just* killed the people that were threatening them.
...god, do I need him carnally.

You know, I was never into the whole dragon riders concept, probably because as someone raised around horses, a lot of it just smacked of gender read as reskinned horsegirl nonsense to me (this was not helped by the children's book I read that explicitly made it horsegirl nonsense with hunter-jumper dragons), and honestly I'm not about that life.
For me the dragon appeal is...more the idea of this unfathomably powerful and old creature, something of sense and intelligence on par with, if not far beyond my own, taking an interest in something as insignificant as I am.
This can be as a plaything, a cat and mouse affair - being kept alive solely by whim. This can be loneliness, something or someone else ostracized by society and in desperate need of connection. This can even be as simple as carnal need, something to sate a physical desire or dark temptation.
Anyway all this to say is I need a dragon.
