HE  GRINS  HIS  APPRECIATION  at  the  waitress  topping  up  his  coffee ,   palm  enveloping  the  now - steaming  mug  lifted  to  lips  without  hesitation .    gaze  shifts ,   across  to  her ,   nodding  at  the  laminated  menu .    “    you  hungry ,   or ..... ?    it’s  on  me  —  i  know  it’s  been  a  long  day .    ”

CAPTAIN   LANDS   WITH   BOTH   FEET   ON   THE   GROUND.   smooth   and   secure.   he   is   out   of   breath.   it’s   hot   under   the   helmet.   shield   bloodied.   and   yet   they   are   alive.   both   of   them.   so   the   violence   at   least   had   had   a   cause.   “   i’m   doing   what’s   necessary.   “   shield   now   attached   to   back.   “   are   you   okay   ?   “   naturally   taller   one   comes   to   check   on   her   before   they   proceed.
