You hear the alarm on your phone go off, and you bring your astral projection back into your body. You quickly rise out of bed, shutting off your phone. Although you practice the mystic arts, you still need several alarms on your phone. You take your legs and heavily swing them over your bed, waiting for them to wake up. You go to stand but immediately start to wobble, making you fall back on your bed. You sigh and grab your quarter staff. You grip onto it with both hands as you stand up. You always forget that you can only walk normally when is astral projection, so you sometimes fall over in the morning if you forget. You quickly conjure a sling ring, walking through it to the foyer of the New York Sanctum. You grip onto your staff tightly, taking slow steps through the portal. Once you make it through, you close the sling ring. You see Dr. Strange float down towards you, ignoring the tall staircases before you completely.
βI sometimes wish there was another cloak of levitation so I can actually move around,β You say, hobbling towards the small kitchen. Strange sets himself down, walking past you, making to cups of tea for you to share.
βI know youβre jealous of my relic, but youβre making much more progress without it,β He says. You grab the tea and walk over towards one of the many cushioned chairs and flop onto it.
You take a sip from the cup, letting the warm liquid wake you up. Dr. Strange sits across from you. You sigh once he crossed his legs before you. Out of all the people in the Sanctum, Strange was the only one who teased you about your walking. Not that it was malicious in any way, but he did it as a reminder of what you wanted to achieve.
βI can tell you just came back from Astral Projection, no wonder youβre all mopey,β he quipped. You pout your lip and nod, earning a laugh from him. You two donβt speak much further for the rest of your morning, catching up on reading.
Later in the day, you were trying to practice your combat, despite your struggles to stand. You could never really lift your staff off of the ground, but this time you were able to strike the air a few times before you nearly toppled over. You practiced every day with combat, and studied spells at night. You were yet to find a spell that could help you with your paraplegia, so you could only practice physically. You had only heard rumors of how Jason Pangborn cured himself, but Strange was reluctant to tell or teach you.
You land a wobbly kick before a sling ring appeared beside you. Wong walks towards you.
βHi Wong!β You say, gripping onto your staff as you catch your breath.
βMaster Strange requires your presence in the Sanctum Sanctorum.β He says. You eyes almost bulge out of your head. You have never been allowed up there! Wong creates another sling ring for you, opening to what supposedly is the third floor, the floor youβve never dared step into. You walk through it, and Wong closes the ring behind you. Youβre suddenly dropped into a chair. Dr. Strange floats at the window, facing away from you.
βYou wanted to see me?β You ask. He turns his head to the side.
βYes. Youβre ready for youβre next task in your training,β he says wistfully. You stand and walk yourself towards him.
βCare to enlighten me?β You reply.
βIβm going to teach you the spell that Jason Pangborn used to make him walk.β He says. You gasp excitedly.
βReally? Thank you so much Dr. Strange, this means so much to me,β You say, trying to keep yourself from crying. He floats to the ground and walks up to you.
βI know Y/N, which is why I want to ask you a favor,β he says a bit sadly. You urge him to continue.
βIf I teach you how to make yourself walk again, will you consider staying here? I need your help. Something dangerous is on its way, and I realize that I need all the help I can get.β He says. You think for a moment.
One of the main reasons you wanted to walk again was so you could dance, but you also loved the mystic arts. You knew you could impact the world so much more in the New York Sanctum, and you liked being in on important missions, even if you just sit on the bench. Are you willing to give up on pursuing a career in dancing again, and choose to avoid helping the universe when you are needed? Would you be that selfish? No. You wouldnβt. You sigh, instinctively giving Doctor strange a hug.
βI promise, Iβll stay here. I guess itβs my destiny isnβt it?β You murmur. Dr. Strange hugs you back.
βI knew I could count on you, my young grasshopper,β He jokes. You let go of him, slapping him in the arm with a laugh.
βJesus Christ, your turning into the Ancient One!β You tease. He shakes his head smiling,
βAlright letβs get you to walk again,β
