Fauna slept so soundly every night he stayed over. They could call themselves friends until they went blue in the face, but they both knew it wasn’t true. Friends didn’t sleep in the same bed 6 nights in a row with the occasional kiss to say goodnight. But Fauna couldn’t kick him out. She didn’t want to be alone again. She loved her crowded double bed. Between Bane, the two cats, and Jet’s massive body, she was very thankful she was so petite. And glad that Jet liked to hold her, or else she’d be afraid she would fall off the side of the bed. She stirred a bit when Jet got up and Abby left her post on Fauna’s pillow. She almost considered following him, but the orange tabby climbed onto her chest and began purring. The soft noise eased her back to sleep. She didn’t notice the noise from her kitchen. When his lips gently touched her forehead, she didn’t know how long she’d been asleep. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled at the large blur that was Jet. The smell of food hit her nose while she pulled on her glasses. Jet held a plate almost overflowing with food. Scrambled eggs, a burger the size of Texas, and a bowl of ramen noodles. He made her breakfast in bed. A huge grin spread across her face as she stared at the plate. He must have used all 2 pounds of ground beef from her fridge. And all 12 eggs. She eyed the burger, and considered if she would have to unhinge her jaw like a snake to actually be able to take a bite of it. He looked so proud of himself. He had the right to be. No one had ever made her breakfast in bed. She always ended up being the one too cook. Never the other way around. The last thing she needed to do right now was laugh. He would be so discouraged. The meal was sweet. The fact that he made sure to wake up before and make her what food he could was even sweeter. It was one of the sweetest gestures anyone had ever done for her. But she had to laugh. There was enough food on her plate to feed her for a week with leftovers. Age couldn’t even figure out how much she could eat. But he woke her so tenderly. Laughing now would be so rude. The sound escaped her lips before she could stop it. Giggles poured from her as she feel back against the pillows. She couldn’t breathe. She needed just one second to tell him she wasn’t laughing at him, but she couldn’t hooks back the laughter long enough to get a word out. The dog climbed over her, trying to get to the plate on her night stand. “Bane! No!" She managed to choke out before pulling him back. “Jet this is so sweet." As she wiped the tears from her eyes, she tried to catch her breath. “Thank you so much."
