Tech View: Nifty looks to break out after extended rangebound trade
NEW DELHI: While Nifty50 ended flat on Thursday, it still managed to hold above the 11,300 level. The index continued to form indecisive candles, Thursdayâs one being a âSpinning Topâ, on the daily chart. It has been trading in a narrow range for some time and is facing selling pressure at higher levels. Analysts, however, expect a breakout soon.

NEW DELHI: Nifty50 on Monday breached its crucial resistance at 10,250 level on a closing basis, but saw intraday profit booking near its previous swing high of 11,341. The index saw a small bearish candle on the daily chart, with a large upper wick, as it settled near where it had opened. The chart resembled an indecisive Gravestone Doji.

I think Iâd rather keep that for my young Jarllan headcanon if you donât mind.
They met at Glastonbury and when Jared went back home, he nagged his mom to find his new Swedish friend a nearby cottage to rent during the summer. One day his eeeeevil stepdad, Rex Harrison, told him in the bluntest of ways heâd be spending yet another year at Downside School, the Catholic boarding school where they gave the boys cold showers every morning and would call them only by their numbers (I took some liberties there, that was Ladycross basically). Even though his mother had made different promises.Â
So Jared, being the argumentative type, tried to⌠argue his way out of yet another year away from home while struggling to forgive his mother for her lie and to justify her shipping him off to a boarding school âbecause she was in love and happy and thatâs all that matteredâ. Frustrated, he stormed out of the house and ran to Stellanâs cottage in tears. Stellan freaked out asking if his stepfather had hurt him and swearing heâd kill him if he ever did; Jared just shook his head sobbing. He cried his heart out while Stellan soothed him and fell asleep in his arms, spending the night on his couch.Â
The following morning Stellan wanted to wake up the redheaded baby on his couch with the smell of his favourite dish, scrambled eggs with mushrooms, but just as Jared woke and got a taste of his tasty breakfast, chaos ensued. A knock on the door and an infuriated Richard Harris yelling.Â
âI had to stop shooting and caught the first plane as soon as your mother called, where the FUCK have you been all night?â Â
(Ok random freaky info I just read on wikipedia concerning Downside school: âIn 2017 the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) began an investigation into the English Benedictine Congregation, including Ampleforth Collegeand Downside School. Ten individuals from the two schools, including monks, were convicted or accepted a caution for abuse. The final report released in August 2018 said that the abuse had been inflicted on pupils for over 40 years, but the schools had tried to cover up the allegations. Downside School has since instituted measures for protecting and safeguarding its students and appointed a new headmaster.âÂ

This splendidly mustachioed fellow is Mr Molohoone. He lived on the abbey estate in the late nineteenth century and was Classics Master at Downside School. This photograph comes from a small notebook that belonged to Dom Lucius Graham (1880-1953). Containing 'The Maisters of Downside Scole' - a poem describing some of the school masters during the last years of the nineteenth century written in pseudo-Middle English verse - Graham wrote the poem in 1898 and illustrated it with numerous small photographs such as this one. Regarding Molohoone's appearance, Graham comments: 'Pincnez this maister wore upon his nose, and for to tellen yow aboute his clothes, a knickerboukere suit he wore withal. He had a beard sharp-pointed, black and smal'. The photograph more than adequately backs up this description!Â
Dom Austin Corney (1887-1972), (pictured above), was born in London, educated at Downside and studied at Belmont. During his career, he was Head Master at Worth and Ealing, and served as parish priest at Little Malvern. He was honoured with the titular priorate of Bath in 1955.
This image of the young Corney was taken at Downside during the first decade of the twentieth century. A pleasing composition, we have sadly been unable to identify the room in which it was taken. The floral hand blocked wallpaper seems a little frivolous in a monastic context, but presumably this is a school room. The desk and pigeon holes support photographic images (note the pot of glue) and on the right there is an early telephone attached to the wall, with a small, brass light switch immediately below it. Corney's study perhaps? Â
The Archive, 100 years ago...
This little photograph affords us a rare glimpse into life at Downside Abbey in the late nineteenth century. The archival component of the HLF 'Beacon of Learning' project is based not in the monastic library, but in the St Bede Centre - now renamed the St Bede Archive. But the Archive didn't start life as study space, but as a purpose built dormitory above the school refectory.
This photograph, taken at the end of the nineteenth century, shows one half of one of the dormitory bays (for more images of the dormitory, see: http://bit.ly/1YJVjIQ). Each bay was shared by two boys and contained their personal possessions and two single iron-framed beds. Sadly, we have not been able to ascertain which boys occupied bay '29' (see the small sign at the top of the photograph) or, indeed, where bay 29 was located in relation to the other bays.
This boy's personal space was seemingly photographed as a good example of a well-ordered bay as it was included in a large late nineteenth-century photograph album which covers both abbey and school. Amongst the various items on display can be seen photographs of the boy's parents and various school masters, an oval picture of the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, numerous devotional images, a large ornamental plaque in the shape of a fish and what appears to be a small model skeleton with an abnormally large skull! Â
