||★|| He texts back with a confirmation that he will definitely drop by and visit. Two days later, he finds time between a double shift at Barts to catch the tube and then walk to the cafe where his sister works.

A glance through the window reveals that she is there so John can thoroughly surprise her. Stepping in, he approaches with a grin and a wave.

[Text] Harry! It’s been a while, how are things? - J 

    That’s not what she was looking for? John thought he had answered the question perfectly. Sort of. What did he botch up?

    Silence. She was met with complete silence. It was more than a tiny shock and John was left speechless as he tried to process it. Only soft breathing was heard until finally, filled with awe, he asked, “I’m going to be an uncle?”

    How does one be an uncle? What was he supposed to do? Well, aside from spoiling them rotten like a good uncle should. He’d need to be a better role model for one. Not that he was trouble or anything, but there was always room for improvement.

    John hadn’t expected to get this...it felt like ages since the last call, but he appreciated it. And missed her.

    Smiling, he dialed her number. He didn’t know if he could ever stay mad at her. Not over something like this. John understood, he had weird hours too, and he wouldn’t fault her for that.

{🌼} MOLLY ALWAYS THOUGHT HER FIRST LINE WAS A BIT RUBBISH. It definitely made life harder, she had to constantly squint at cashier workers, wondering if they would utter that fateful line. It was as indistinct as a Hello, or Nice to Meet You, and she spent half her life TERRIFIED  that she might miss out, her heart used to jump whenever her items were being rung up-- would they be £5.30? Would this be it? Her friends would joke, this meant for sure her soulmate wasn’t any sort of mogul, or a business man. The best thing she could hope for a florist, or a bookshop owner. That would at least be somewhat romantic. What could she buy for five pounds though? Not to mention, the use of darling. They teased her, saying it was probably some doddery old man, but Molly personally liked it. DARLING, she had spent countless sleepless nights tracing over the black inked words, whispering it to herself. DARLING. 

But it turns out, when it happened, she wasn’t quite paying attention at all. 

It was a horrible day; it was pouring outside and she had just managed to duck into a cafe to try and get some coffee to warm herself up. It was crowded though, it didn’t look like there’d be any seats, which meant wrestling with her cheap umbrella and fighting her way back to Barts before she could savour her coffee. It smelled delicious though, like freshly roasted coffee beans, so maybe she hadn’t made a wrong choice after all. 

Her phone went off after she placed her order, and she smiled briefly at the barista. It was Sherlock, and of course he wanted to know where she was, and right now. She nodded, reaching about to fish for her purse. 

Which wasn’t there. 

“God-- I forgot my purse! I don’t know what’s gotten into me, I’m so sorry.”
