I thought it was actually one of the best horror movies I’ve seen!! The message it’s sending and the story is more understated and requires a lot of attention to detail and subtext than a lot of cookie cutter horror movies that come out. I thought the entire thing was actually innovative and greatly disturbing and I enjoyed not being made to feel like a dumbass like I usually feel by lots of movie’s over explanations and crappy writing when I’m watching horror

Really? Idk, maybe I’m dumb then. I don’t like horror movies that belong to that “every horror movie ever” group either but I also don’t like when someone tries too hard to make it all look so artistique when there’s not much of a meaning (at least to me there wasn’t much of it). (What did it mean to you btw? What message did you see?)

The first part of the movie was interesting, the emotions was very real and I was invested in the characters but when they went to Sweden it just fell apart. I get it was meant to be some delirious, aesthetically pleasing macabre dream but the characters lost all the authenticity to me the minute they entered that horrific dream place. They let those people drug them constantly, they were fine with things that they shouldn’t be fine with. Their personalities and relationships was falling apart and becoming more and more machine-like. You know those moments when all the people in that community was mimicking emotions of others? So, to me, the whole Sweden part was basically this level of fake. Was it disturbing? Yeah, in some cases. But at some point, when you stop being invested in what will happen to the main characters you just want to be done with it.

Perhaps it’s just a matter of what we like, I can totally get why this movie might be appealing, it’s probably just not my cup of tea. Or maybe I just don’t see the message, or the message I see doesn’t fascinate me. And I have an aversion to that pristine aesthetic in the movies, maybe that’s it.

Oh.  Is it that time already?  I didn’t realise…

First and foremost we will be enjoying and celebrating our love and marriage openly and publicly.  All of London knows about it, the fact that we were in a romantic relationship was in all the papers a few months back, it was quite the fuss.  That level of exposure alone has been a huge step for John.  He’d not even really accepted or admitted his attraction to men until February, so it’s all new and fresh, and he has been dealing with other personal/family issues of late, as have I.  But of course we are very proud of the family we have built together, and aim to continue to celebrate that openly, as we have been.

I don’t expect we will attend the parade.  I believe it is the end of this month (or 1st of July?), and I had thought of going to Edinburgh then.  Nothing definite yet, but John and I had been chatting about it.  I attended the London parade once, back in the 90′s, and it started right outside the flat in 2014, so I was able to watch from the windows in the lounge, but John’s never been, and it might be a bit much for him, still.  Of course if he wants to go, I will be more than happy to attend with him.  

It’s been beautiful seeing John open up and become more fully himself this year.  It’s a process, but I can tell that he is lighter, happier, in some ways, as am I.  My challenges have been slightly different from John’s but the last few months have been an exploration for me too.  Just opening myself to being with him, not seeing it as a weakness, but taking pleasure and pride in being openly, romantically involved with and committed to him.  I have been–afraid of that part of myself for a very long time, so–perhaps I am not so different from John in that regard.  We are learning to open and accept those parts of ourselves together.  And I’m glad he’s the one I’m getting to take that journey with.  There aren’t adequate words for how dear he is to me, how much I love, respect and value him.  Loving and being loved by him has been the best experience of my life.  

But, I suppose this is all rather personal and far more than you were really after when you asked.  Apologies.  This reply got away from me a little.
