31 for 31 2021 Day 8 Movie: The Beyond(1981) This movie is widely considered to be in the running for the Goat of Italian horror cinema, and for good reason. The make-up, the artistic direction, and a majority of the special effects were all very well done. It’s the kind of stuff that make my inner art nerd come out and squeal with delight! But as great as the art direction was, the plot incredibly hard to follow. Like half way through the movie, I turned to my wife and said “well, I have no idea what the fuck is going on!” To which she replied *snore* because she fell asleep! Lucio Fulci is a true master of horror, and from the standpoint of an art nerd you should absolutely experience the masters of Italian horror! But let’s be real, badly dubbed Italian horror movies aren’t for everybody, and that’s ok. I specifically chose to draw the final scene, because it really was haunting to watch Doc McCabe and Liza Merril descend into the depths of hell. Frankly, it’s Probably the most powerful imagery in the movie. KUGITANG MOUNTAINS Near the border with Uzbekistan, the western slopes of the Kugitang Mountains are a nature reserve with a unique ecosystem. Deep canyons and mountains with walnut, maple and juniper forests are home to rare mountain sheep and markhour, an endangered mountain goat, while the Dinosaur Plateau contains more than 400 dinosaur footprints. MERV Near the city of Mary, the Silk Road metropolis of Merv dates back 2,500 years. In the 12th century, at its height, it was a place of palaces, irrigation channels and fertile gardens.
