My boyfriend tried to tell me today that as a 21 year old that obsessively writes fan fiction, I should get a life. I should "get a hobby". And, my personal favorite insult, "There's so much more to life than writing, why do you even waste your-" FIRSTLY, SHUT THE FUCK UP. I'm a goddamn English major. I have a minor focus in Fictional Writing. I will graduate in 5 months with honors. Not only that, my professors actively read my fan fiction. They love my writing. They critique when necessary, give advice, etc. SECONDLY, "GET A HOBBY?" Such as, I dunno, turning my brain to mush in front of a television? Playing video games, consuming enough carbonation to explode? First of all, you arrogant, condescending FUCK, I have a fucking hobby. I have a productive, entertaining, admirable hobby. If you for one second think that the writers on tumblr, wattpad, etc., don't spend their days obsessing over their work, correcting it, processing their ideas over and over to get them perfect, YOU ARE WRONG. Being a writer might be the hardest job in the world. Not only do we try to please our readers, most of us obsess over our work until we are in love with it, and my usual proof reading for something >5000 words, takes roughly a week. That's a long fucking time. Appreciate the creative minds in your life. When a writer no longer writes, their spirits die, so do a million ideas. You being a dick could have stopped a series from happening. If you belittle or talk badly to a writer, the possibilities are endless. You could have just changed history. You being an asshole could remove one of the best plots and story lines from our generation because your mean, unnecessary words CRUSHED A WRITER. Don't be a dick. I have a hobby. I'm living it. So... Fuck you, boyfriend. 💁💀
