Insomnia laid in ruins. At least a great part of it. Somnus himself was to blame for part for the devastation, he knew that. The battle with Diamond Weapon had demanded that. And there was a greater end goal to it all. As long as the Prince survived⌠their people, Lucis would.
Of course still, sons and daughter of Lucis had died in the fall of Insomnia. Many. And it was a horrific shame. But it couldnât have been avoided.
Normal folk had fallen victim as much as soldiers, guards, Glaives and nobles had. The council, too⌠well, down to one woman. She had survived. And the Empire was aware of her special status. They kept her captive â in part of the Citadel. A golden cage, but a cage nonetheless.
Somnus could sense her presence in the corridors and rooms, as he followed her, watched her - and finally left the realm of spirits he usually had inhabited for two millennia. She was alone, here. Of course, Nifen guards stood outside. A dozen. And a dozen more down the line. But at least here, in this room they wouldnât be disturbed.
He let his steps be louder for a moment as he came closer â not wanting her to be scared. It would be overwhelming enough, after all that happened. Slowly approaching, Somnus vaguely raised his hands, showing he was unarmed.
âI mean you no harm⌠I am not from Niflheim. Not at all⌠and I can only imagine what you have been through these past days. And yet â you are brave and loyal. Incredibly so. Like your family has been for many generations.â
