#doll identification

First up I have this little baby, the back of her head says “RELIABLE” and “MADE IN CANADA” and because of these dolls I found out that Reliable is a Canadian toy company that made dolls in the 40s-50s. She is absolutely solid I’m not quite sure of her material but parts of her have broken off and cracked.

Next is this little lady, she doesn’t have any brand identifiers on her, I think it’s likely she could also be from Reliable but I am not sure. Her head is hard but her body is made of a soft rubbery material.

This next one also has no brand identification marks on her, she has a hard head and a soft rubbery body, and she also has this hole in the back of her neck? I have no clue what that is for but it almost looked as if you could put a key or something into it so I’m wondering if she had some sort of mechanism in her?

Then we have this big baby, I have absolutely no idea what this is and I can’t read what it says on the back of the head, I think it says “DEE CEE” or “DEE GEE” but it’s difficult to tell. (Picture taken down bc I think that flagged the post)

I also have this head which is from Reliable, no clue what happened to her but she’s actually really fun because you can play with the mechanism that controls the eyes!

I can't figure out the Barbie in the middle. She has big round earrings and a ring.

which is close to sunflower Barbie, but the eyeshadow doesn't match

And her clothes are covered in glitter glue, gems, and roses, which made me think maybe it was one of those "design your own fashion" type of set. But that is of course assuming all those pieces came together in the first place.

This is a bit of a tricky one to answer definitively without being able to see the dolls - there's a lot of features they might have that can help identify them, like what era they came out, face sculpt, bodies, and so on.

That description of the black haired doll with purple streaks made my mind go to Fashionista 231.

However, I highly doubt this is it... because Fashionista 231 was from last year, so not consistent with your description of this being a doll you had from a thrift store as a kid.

So in all likelihood, it was a Skipper, and specifically, a Skipper from sometime post-2009 (as this is when she started rocking what certain friends of mine persist in calling Eridan swag). As you point out, the dolls were the same size though, and Skipper is usually smaller than Barbie.

There's a couple of possibilities from here. Skipper is usually smaller than Barbie, but is approximately the same size as Barbies with the petite body type, so there's a chance that one or more other Barbies you had were a petite and that's why they were so similar in size.

But I'm also mindful of the fact that you said your doll had black hair, and most Skippers have brown hair with a purple streak. There are dolls in the Skipper line with black hair, but with a blue streak.

With thrift store dolls, there's always another possibility though: they may have been customized - head-swapped, rerooted, etc. So if we really can't track it down, that could be one reason why.

That's not even getting started on the pink heart necklace or the pink plastic thing -- there's a lot of possibilities and a lot of digging to be done.

Hi so I'm in a weird little rabbit hole and could use some assistance in hunting down a specific doll's origin, I came across this white/silver and gold porcelain jester doll with green eye-shadow, blue eyes and purple accents-

-However the only source I could find was a singular Flickr post that just labeled her as "Camelot white clown doll" and was pictured standing next to another doll.

AstroDollux is a subset of dollux, where ones identity is tied to themes of dolls, luxury and the stars, perhaps a high quality doll from space or with some sort of star motif or even being a high quality doll in result of being made from stardust. However ones identity ties to such themes.
