casually contemplating a sit-com upon media day photo dump:

charly: (oh ur no fun) no, i’m fine standing. it’s no big deal

jan: no big deal for me. (grabs charly over) you should sit, hon (whisper)

charly: (blushed) but what about you? if a big wave comes you’ll topple (too tall for the rails)

jan: (straight face) charly, i won’t topple. sit down (press his pretty silly bf into the majlis)

charly: (jumps right back up) no it’s not fair if you’re the only one standing!

jan: sit, charly. or i’ll make sure everyone knows you’re pregnant so no one ever dares to sit before you do

charly: (finally settles in)

After two full years of giving everything and winning so much, I think it’s also normal to have a period of adjustment where you need to figure out what to do to improve and reach the next step. It happens to all great tennis players at some point in their careers (I’m using Carlos’ struggles at the beginning of last year as an example because it’s the most immediate one and probably the one everyone remembers best) . Jannik has reached a very high level, and it’s well known that the higher the level, the harder it is to reach the next one.

And we should remember that he did warn us he would lose some matches. Well, that moment has arrived, so let’s wait and see. The season is long, and we know things can change.

All this to say that we should believe in him a little more and stop portraying him always as the weak one or as some idiot who doesn’t understand what decisions it’s better to make. He became world No. 1 and stayed number 1 until last year (few months ago) because of decisions he made himself, so I’d say we should have a bit of trust🫶🏻
