This is and always will be an on-going conversation, not only with others but with ourselves.  

We’ve all had this moment of realization in our lives from either a situation we’re going through or went through, a certain time period in our life, or simply having an euphony one morning and thinking to yourself, it’s time to grow up.  Am I right?  I would hope this thought came sooner rather than later in life. I found this quote by Daniel black and he says, “Sometimes you have to grow up before you appreciate how you grew up.” I thought to myself after reading that how accurate and almost perfect it is. When I think about the term “Growing up” I don’t think of it as the literal term, I think of it as that moment in your life when someone starts to realize what they need to start thinking about to benefit them in the future. This thought came to me around my last year in high school.

I never thought time could go by as fast as it does, and what’s scary is that time goes by faster as you get older. When I graduated high school I had a new perspective on life. Shouldn’t everyone? I had to think about going off to college, getting a job, and thinking about my future and what I wanted to do in life. Talk about pressure. That’s when I thought to myself well, this is growing up and it’s just begun.

When I think about growing up and the lessons life throws at us I also think of it as developing maturity. It’s true, isn’t it? All the thoughts and plans we go through show how mature we all are. This time in my life, I’m a college student about to graduate; I have two jobs, and have plans for my future you could say I’m on some level of maturity. That’s growing up.

As a consumer it is easy to overlook the importance of pop music in recent times. You may notice individual songs, but may not notice their effects on us all. For example, there are more people on this earth who know all of the words to the most recent kiss-off song by Ms. Taylor Swift than who know the details of the current conflict in Syria. Pop music, at its core, is a way to escape the troubled times that are all around us. It is a way for people to forget their problems and focus on the euphoric noise that is usually being broadcasted to them at all times.

I for one am a colossal fan of pop music. From my very first album being the Backstreet Boys’ multi-platinum smash, “Millennium” to driving 3 and a half hours to Miami just to see Justin Timberlake on his comeback tour with Jay-Z (but seriously, who wouldn’t?) Pop music is something,that is coursing through my veins at all times. I mean, just look through twitter (i.e. #beliebers). It drives all of the things that I do and provides a soundtrack to memories that I will keep for the rest of my life.

Naturally, with all of this information that I have just given you, I assume that you now know how much of a fan I am of pop music and all that is involved with it. I also assume that you are probably wondering about my opinion on the current state of pop music. And if you’re not... you’re gonna get it anyway because that’s just how things work in this blog. For this post I will be focusing mainly on one major pop star who is very busy preparing the release of her third album…

My name is Jake and I am a junior at the University of Central Florida majoring in English Technical Communication, which I hope will help me find a job in the advertising and public relations world after graduation. I am originally from North Carolina, but have been living in the Orlando area for the last 15 years. Playing guitar, comedy, friends, family, and music in general are my greatest passions in life, but I also enjoy travelling, writing, photography, and many other activities. My interest in advertising stems from the creativity that I saw in the field. I love slogans because, to me, they are like catchy lyrics. The posters and commercials that I see every day appeal to me with the creative mind behind it.

  The point of this blog is for me to write about certain things, mostly music, movies, and books, and invite visitors to read my content and join in an open conversation related to the topic. What I hope to accomplish is not to simply slap a five stars out of five stars rating on an album, but rather go into detail about it. While I will certainly point out positives and negatives, I aim to focus more on the overall vibe of the album and try to explain why fans of that specific genre or artist might enjoy it. I certainly believe in honest reviews, but I do not believe in being harsh for the sake of trying to come off as cool or smarter than everyone else. I chose "Kay's Coffee Corner" not just because it has a nice ring to it, but because it gives me the feeling that I could walk into this blog with a nice cup of coffee, sit back, read, and enjoy. Hopefully, running this blog will expose me to new things, bring me into interesting discussions, and maybe even improve my writing skills along the way.
