Recently I've been ill. My doctor doesn't know what's wrong because I have a bunch of symptoms that don't add up and keep changing.
Anyway, last week I went to see her and we spoke for a really long time as she tried to get a fuller picture. There were several possibilities and it could be gynecological but it ended up with me having to go for tests which I did and I'm now waiting for the results.
At no point though did she ask about my weight or tell me to lose weight. Not once.
Previously I'd been for a check up there for what turned out to be stress related pain and had had a full check up while I was there which included me being weighed. The nurse asked me if my weight was normal for me and I explained I'd put some weight on during the pandemic to which she replied "haven't we all!". That was it. She said it was normal and my weight was fine.
I'm very certain this is not usual for drs in Germany - it definitely isn't normal in UK where weight is blamed for everything. But the pressure it took off of me and the way it made me feel that I could go to the drs free of concern of my symptoms being dismissed and blamed on weight (because they arent connected to my weight at all) was enormous.
If you find yourself in the same position as me I can only say cherish and support the drs and nurses in your surgery because they are very rare and you (and I) are very lucky indeed
