“That person seems to be very important to you, isn’t he?”

A voice called out to him, pointing to his sketch.

Daisuke looked up from the sketch book to give the owner of the voice a smile.

“I suppose you can say he is. He’s been there for me a lot.”

“I guess I can understand the sentiment in a way. I’ve had someone like that.”

They said, glancing up towards the sky.

“Losing someone can be hard, isn’t it? You’re left only with the memory of that person and it feels like that they were only alive just now...”

The teen followed his line of sight.

“But even so it’ll be time to move on…”

“I suppose this is farewell…”

It witnessed this scene one too many times. The reoccurring screams as well as the flames that swallowed Hikari and various other arts whole.

Elm Root was one of the lucky ones, so it would seem.

It felt as though it was just yesterday that the artwork had been spending time with its creator. Not to mention its fellow artworks too.

Even as it rounded the remains of the staircase, Elm Root could picture the sound of laughter and cheer that once filled the empty room.

What was it that made the Black Wings different from the rest of the artworks?

Perhaps if Argentine could comprehend the concept, maybe then…

Yet an issue popped up: how was he to go about trying to do so?

Many ideas came to mind, however only one stood out.

By taking the Sacred Maiden, wouldn’t it bring him closer to what the artwork wanted to achieve?

The way she smiled at him while speaking his name. Not to mention how Yuu would look upon his works with admiration in her eyes.

If Fukami had the chance, he would give her the world if that was possible.

Besides as long as Yuu was happy that was all that matters.

Or so he said to himself.

It was only a matter of time before she would go somewhere beyond his reach.

Just like a prized bird escaping its cage.

“...Have you ever thought of going against our creator’s wishes even once?”

One odd artwork had asked one day.

An unusual question. Not something that it thought about at every waking moment.

“Not even once.”

Manismare shook its head, uninterested in the subject.

The other smiled sadly, tucking a stray strand of hair back.

“I was like you once, uninterested in other matters aside from the creator’s. Some day, you’ll come to understand.”

It hadn’t understood those words then. Nor had that very artwork ever come back to visit.

Then came the moment that the creation of Black Wings was interrupted.

Yet, Dark knew that this moment wouldn’t last forever. His existence would merely cause her suffering. He would outlive her as she was just a human.

And it was why even at this moment, the artwork would never see her again. Nor would she remember him.

A tragic fate of sorts…

Perhaps, that’s why even now Dark thought of her.

The last thing he wanted was to make Risa cry…Except knowing her, she would do exactly that.

“...Maybe if we met under different circumstances, life wouldn't be so cruel.”
