The Koplex

Beeza and Gheeza Pehl were twin enchantresses obsessed with understanding the underlying mechanics of creation. Their volume - "The Guide for Dungeon Masters" is a Grimore that can grant a caster access to powers and abilities that would otherwise be beyond their reach. They had long kept a menagerie of monsters, which were used as study subjects, attempting to replicate their various magical powers, but it was never enough. Their ultimate desire was still out of their grasp.
Frustrated with what their lack of results, they summoned a powerful demon, Argax, known by many as the Keeper of Demonic Knowledge, and asked it to reveal them the means by which destiny is decided. Argax chuckled, showed them a handful of oddly shaped stones with numbers, then vanished. Intrigued, the sisters turned their studies to those stones, which they named the Koplex, leading them to learn a great deal about the power within the Koplex.
Their over zealous desire to control fate forced their hand into attempting something no one had ever done before… biomimicry of Fate Stones. Due to the power stored within, they were able to fuse the stones with living creatures, while using the exotic materials required to hold the necessary enchantments. They started with the four-sided Koplex, and each that followed was larger, more powerful, and more difficult to create.
One of the sisters, Gheeza, was destroyed in the process of completing the set when they were fusing the horrifically powerful twenty-sided Koplex with an eye-beast. They didn’t yet understand the forces behind a fusion of this magnitude and had not expected it to draw the life out of one living creature to fulfill the creation and fusion of another. However distraught, Beeza continued her work and hoped to control the Koplex. Still somewhat nieve, she then tried to attune herself to the creations but the power within took on a will of its own.
As Beeza watched in dismay, a new destructive force came into existence, and by her own doing. The stones, altered, fused, and enhanced with the power of the magnificent creatures, began to mangle reality to suit their own whims, their own desires. These creatures, the Koploids, were dangerous, uncontrollable, and worst of all, free. She tried to flee but it was far too late; they turned on her and she fell. Beeza died while desperately trying to undo what she and her sister had done. The power of fate had proven too much for them. Their hubris was their undoing.
The Phel dungeon, now home to these wonderous and deadly creations, has, over the years, became a highly sought after prize. The knowledge stored within is considered priceless to many, but others consider it too deadly. Many heroes have attempted to enter the dungeon, either to steal or to destroy the Koplex and the research behind their forging. Nothing, or no one, has ever come out. The secrets of the Koplex are a great prize. The risks of seeking them are even greater.
Will you be able to tame the Dungeon of Phel?
