Devilman crybaby review

Devil man cry baby is a classic manga and series avaliable on Netflix, with its intense spine chilling twists to its relatable scenes this is a perfect watch with no downsides that I can pick. Not only does it entertain, but it devastates.

Devil man cry baby features the protagonist Akira Fudo an empathetic human who feels alot but is possessed by a demon. The series focuses on the challenges of Akira as it takes a relgious turn showing all the sins in humanity from things such as drugs to lust as he overcomes physical changes. We are also introduced to his best friend Ryo Asuka where he is revaled to be more than human. But as the series progresses there is a devision in both the friends as the world begins to spiral off and society crumbles into an inevitable rage of chaos.

However, it is not just the plot that makes this anime so well calculated but the deep dove lore of each individual character. Akira Fudo takes his new form (half human, half devil) and uses it to protect others and save humanity with what little hope he has, whilst Ryo is tormented by his feelings and doesn't understand Akira, whilst it isnt specifically said, Ryo seems to have feelings for Akira whilst Akiras love lies somewhere else for Miki. A deep hearted character is Miki where she is seen to be perfect. Miko becomes jealous of her and feels like a let down as she can never beat the joyous Miki who always does better. In the end they make a bet that if Miko wins a race she takes over the name of Miki. Regardless what's shown Mikis life isnt so golden, as she is perverted on by an older man who is relentless to get what he wants from her. Despite of of this there still lays a painful portrait as Miki the character meant to show innocence and hope is later ruthlessly killed. Each character is symbolic in their very own way as the anime shows the effects of sin and war as an anti-war anime. Not only does this anime show relationships but it shows the rawness of some people's lives and the ugly nature in society.

The most cog turning scene is the opening, which typically isnt expected. The opening starts of with a flash of the earth being exploded but only for a split second but this was intentional, this small scene is a foreshadowing that lingers through out the series. Where at the end we see this scene yet again leaving the audience to theorise. Akira lays dead and Ryo turns to him asking the ironic question "Akira why am I the only one who's speaking". Through Ryos rage Akira is ultimately lost due to his drive for power. This ending gives a biblical shocking story that Akira is being punished for his sins in a constant loop until his lesson is learnt through pain and agony.

Overall this anime is a gut wrenching watch that is intended to leave the audience distraught. It is definstly not a watch for children with its graphic episodes such as one in a bar of prostitutes but other than this it is perfect. ☆☆☆☆☆

I drew Sayori without a reference (from memory) and I think she turned out okay. This was after I finished one of my exams

After the end of the world, things usually reset and Ryo loses his memory, meets Akira and falls in love again from the beginning, right?

Well, in the au, I was thinking that since God is punishing Ryo constantly, he could try a new method, a fault in the loop.

In this AU, Ryo does not lose his memories. The world is restored, he is still at the age he was when he ended the world, but this time there is no Akira. It’s just Ryo, all his memories of being satan, ending the world, yadda yadda you get it.

Ryo would regularly suffer from hallucinations of Akira, he’d dream about the end of the world and wake up in a cold sweat. Ryo is already incapable of love, but now that he lost the only person he ever fell in love with, he truly desires no one.

He spends his days hallucinating, suffering from impulsive and homicidal thoughts, he gets panic attacks (especially when he sees anyone that resembles Akira) and he self harms in various ways to try and forget. Ryo was never very fond of humans already and we can tell by the way he had no problem wiping the whole of humanity out, but he almost…succumbs to their ways of coping by engaging in mind-numbing activities like cutting or rotting away and wasting his days in his house.

As he ages up over time (at this point in the au he’d be at least 24-25), I think his ways of self harm would change. Ryo would engage in hookups and find men that look like Akira as an outlet for his desires, which he has never felt before he fell in love with Akira. He wouldn’t feel any love or attachment to them, just use them to do things he never got to do with his beloved (whom he killed, unfortunately…)

Ryo would be so rotten and lost from his depression, he’d push Jenny away and he would take his life after enduring all of it for so long. When Ryo kills himself, eventually, the whole world would end, everything resets, and we are taken back to the very beginning as per usual…
