Little piece of a fic I'll probably never write, but the idea just won't leave my head. Biiiig Angst Potential. If someone wants to make this into something, please do.
What if djinns in the Witcher worked like they do in Supernatural?
When Geralt and Jaskier let the djinn escape, instead of Jaskier becoming ill, the djinn puts him in a dream state.
In this dream state, Jaskier is happy, the happiest he's ever been in fact. He's a celebrated bard known all over the continent. He never wants for anything; food, money, adoration. Valdo Marx is barely a thought of the past, grovelling in some village to even be allowed to play in a tavern that barely deserves the name.
But more importantly, perhaps most importantly, Jaskier has the love of a man that he has yearned for over the many years they've traveled together.
And then one day Yennefer comes to him looking desperate (because of course its Yennefer). Her words are rushed, pointed. She tells him its all a lie. It's a fantasy constructed by a djinn, none of this is real Jaskier! A part of Jaskier does know, has always known. He just didn't want to see the truth. In the end its easier to believe the lie when the truth hurts so much.
He argues that he wants to stay here, he can just stay here and Geralt can be all hers in the other - real - world. Yennefer's expression turns sad, but Jaskier refuse to believe pitying.
Then she explains that the djinn is killing him in the real world. It's poisoned his body and slowly sucking the life from his comatose form. Jaskier yells he doesn't care. He'd rather die here, happy, finally happy. He'd rather live and die with the lie than face the truth that breaks his heart.
In a last ditch effort, Yennefer tells him of Geralt. The real Geralt, who hasn't left his side for days. Geralt, who blames himself for the current state of his - friend.
Jaskier shakes his head. Because he knows now. He knows what's its like to be loved by the witcher. And he doesn't think he hate strength to go back to being just friends, if that's what they even were before.
But Yennefer's running out of time. The spell allowing her to dream walk to contact the bard is starting to wane. With the last few seconds she has in his dream state she hurriedly tells Jaskier how to escape the djinn's grasp. He must take his own life in this fantasy world. By making the ultimate sacrifice to reject the dream set by the djinn, he'd break the magic binding him to this place and rid his mortal body of the creature's poison.
Yennefer disappears and Jaskier isn't even given a moment to think when Geralt, the Geralt who loves him, shows up and he's swept away in the dream once again.
More time passes. Eventually Jaskier begins to feel the weakness from the poison start to seep into the fantasy world. It gets harder and harder to pretend, to immerse himself in this world where he has everything.
Then one night, he can't sleep. He just wants to curl around his witcher and sleep but he can't. His joints ache and his stomach roils. Jaskier gets up and walks over to the open window, gazing out into the dark streets below.
Somewhere nearby a wolf howls at the full moon. A glint to his left catches his eye. Geralt's silver sword, awash in the moonlight, not fully sheathed from when he had been sharpening it before Jaskier distracted him with the temptation of a warm bath.
Jaskier looks away and grits his teeth. Behind him, Geralt makes a noise in his sleep and shifts, unconsciously grasping for the bard that's no longer there. Jaskier glances back at him, sadness and regret in his eyes. He turns back to the glinting blade.
A wolf howls once more, this time answered by another wolf.
A reflection of myself.....I came across this video and watched because so many of the design elements match to my own practices.....Turns out it is a ritual to summon her Djinn....My finding this video and watching it could be a time delayed response to the invocation cast  because her  other 4/9/17 video  on crystal ball use is also  so close to home.
