DIY Chest Binder Tutorial!
I made my own binder today and it was SO EASY (and cheap.. only $10!) so I thought I’d share!
Works well and is so BREATHABLE and comfy due to the mesh in the back. Make one for every day of the week.
Requires some sewing skills (it’s possible with hand sewing!) but its a super super simple pattern. Learn 2 sew by making a binder, its a great skill to have B) Try it out for yourself and let me know, I’m really interested in hearing how it works for different bodies!
See the tutorial below!!
To my stealth t-bois and Enby friends #bindingwithsportsbras
Heeeeeyyy. So a while back I tried to make a post about these and it disappeared so I'm going to try again.
Target has a bunch of new "sports wear" right now from JoyLab. Here's some I snapped pics of over a month ago.
We finally had room in our budget (not really but we needed clothes) and I got to try these on. I ended up coming home with the bottom middle shirt and an all dark grey version of the top left.
From the designs and the way they're made it looks like JoyLab was taking queues from gymnastics style outfits (you can really tell by the top right one). In order of binding strength the top right one (which I also found in blue and white) has the stiffest material on the front and I would say got me the flattest. They were no goes for me only because too tight and my fibro acts up.
The top left is definitely the middle point and one of the ones I brought home. It wears more like a binder than any sports bra I've ever had.
I don't normally block my face but the dysphoria is kicking my ass this morning.
Not excessive binding, not any where like a binder but a good middle point. If you're in a position where you can't get a real binder or can't wear one for medical reasons but could wear something slightly less constricting, this could be a good option. I'm glad they had it in grey when I went back for them finally.
The other one I got is the bottom middle. That one and the blue one on the left are more like spandex shirts. I cannot bind every day, I can't even wear sports bras every day, some days my body just can't handle it. So I've been wearing regular cotton tank tops under my normal shirt. Sometimes it's fine, other times, like yesterday, I have a freak out at work because BOOOOOOOBS. These are good options. The spandex is strong enough to reduce casual jiggling and light enough that I don't foresee much sweating being done unless I'm actually doing something strenuous, and then at that point IT'S EXCERSISE GEAR! So no big worry there. The only one I didn't try on was the bottom right. Based on how it felt on the hanger, probably a mid point between the sports bra and the shirt that I brought home. I wasn't interested because I just didn't like the shape.
So yeah. Things that are not actually bras that are found at your friendly neighborhood Target store.
Hope it helps.
heya i identify as trans masc enby and i am 26b cup,, i see all these post that are like "if you have a or b cups bind with a sports bra or something similar to get the same results as a binder!!!!" but i wear sport bras all the time (even ones that are sizes too small) and they dont bind? if anything they make them appear bigger! do you have any suggestions on what I should try to help bind? (i'm not able to get an actual binder as im still in the closet)
I’m not so sure on DIY methods to bind…Â

do the make your own binder kits also take 4-6 weeks to ship? or is that just for the sewn in store ones? I’m trying to decide between the make your own mesh kit and the sewn in store mesh binder, and if the shipping times are the same it’ll probably sway me towards the one I won’t have to motivate myself to make time to sew.
Make-Your-Own kits typically take 2-3 weeks from order to shipment! They still come up through the queue, but they're the first ones out the door.

my KT tape experience so far
- leave 'tabs' ie unstretched portions at the ends
- wear a tightish undershirt over the tape and between your shirt
- put a little piece of tissue where your nipple will be
- try to end the tape a little more in your back than right on the side of the bob. I see guys with small bobs not wrap it to the back, but if you have anything substantial the tension will give you bad blisters
Hey to that B-cup boy, on transmaculinehelp blog, they have a DIY binding tutorial, if you search "safe" on there blog it should be the first thing that comes up.
!
Hey, I've recently discovered I'm fluidflux, and want to know if there are any safe ways to bind without a binder, since my parents are transphobic. Any other general advice would really be appreciated Maxie
Hi Maxie,
Sorry for the late reply. (I’ve been/still am sick)
Here’s some info on diy binding which is probably the best option:

I’m really sorry that your parents are transphobic, what I would recommend is spending time with people who truly do value you and love you. If you are not out to anyone, I would suggest trying to find a local social and support group. It can help a lot when you know people who are going through a similar situation.Â
I just hope that one day your parents will realise how important it is stick by their own child, no matter what. I know it can be extremely hard but don’t forget that you know who you are no matter what anyone says or what your family “thinks”. You know what’s in your heart.
