The front door opens with a whoosh of cool air, the skitter of paws on hard floors, and a lovely “I’m home!”

Or, Yuuri gets back from walking Makkachin, Makkachin is overcome with the need to greet Viktor with loving enthusiasm, Viktor is holding a bowl full of flour and chocolate, and there is no way in any universe that this could possibly end well.

In the ensuing mild explosion of flour, Viktor somehow manages to save the majority of the bowl’s contents by tossing it onto the countertop as he goes down under Makkachin’s paws, but not without casualties.  Some of the flour spills out onto his head and shirt, and it’s with great effort that he pushes Makkachin’s head and questing tongue away before any chocolate gets licked.

“No!  Down, Makka!  It’s bad for you!  Hello!  Yes, yes, I’m happy to see you, too, lovely, but no!”

Sternness is lost on a happy dog.  There’s tail-wagging, there’s butt-wiggling, and there’s eager panting, but not one whit of remorse.  Viktor clambers to his feet, hands on his hips, and sighs as a dusting of flour falls from his hair to the floor.

“Whoops,” Yuuri says from behind him, laughter hiding under his voice.  “As soon as I unclipped the leash, she got away from me…”

“Yes, I can see that,” Viktor says, turning around.  “Hello to you, too, I hope you had a nice walk…”

“We did!” Yuuri says, grinning.  His hair is windswept, falling in soft, messy waves around his face, and that smile absolutely belongs there too, even if it does still give Viktor these funny little heart palpitations.  Odd, that–you’d think they would fade after marriage, but apparently Yuuri’s smile is timeless.  Not that that surprises Viktor in the slightest. 

Yuuri is still staring at him in all his flour-dusted glory like he’s trying incredibly hard not to laugh.  Viktor sighs, hiding his own grin.

“I’m glad,” he answers dryly.  “Now, Mr. Katsuki-Nikiforov, might I ask what, exactly, you are looking at?”

Yuuri’s lips twitch, and he finally gives up and laughs.  “Well, Mr. Katsuki-Nikiforov, you’ll have to forgive me.  You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” he says, but Viktor forgives him for the teasing, because he also steps forward to loop his arms around Viktor’s waist and pull him close for a kiss.

It ends far too quickly, though, because Yuuri withdraws, wrinkling his nose.

“But you taste like bitter flour.”

Viktor’s response is to bow his head and nuzzle his flour-covered face into Yuuri’s neck, ignoring the little huff of protest.  “Are you saying that’s enough to stop you?  I didn’t know I married a quitter.”

Makkachin noses at their legs, and Yuuri scrunches his fingers through her fur, lightly scratching behind her ears.  Viktor takes the opportunity to rub his cheek against Yuuri’s, laughing when Yuuri ducks away with a yelp, scrubbing the flour away on his sleeve.

“Quitter!” Viktor sings gleefully.  Yuuri’s eyes narrow.
