The great divide. Land of light and lush nature and on the other side barren land of shadows. Separated by the road to unknown. Walk this road carefully, nothing is what it seems.

Vintage Paperback - The Divided Heart by Arlene Hale (1975)
Art by Robert A. Maguire
I see a lot of Christians, especially in the western world trying to play on both sides of the fence. Team Jesus on Sunday and whenever their online, Team World at all other times. You better wise up. Christ doesn't settle. He doesn't need you. You need Him. Jesus won't enter a divided heart.
A person need go no further than his own heart to find the source of all violence in the world.
Unknown monk
God will not accept a divided heart. He must be absolute monarch. There is not room in your heart for two thrones. You cannot mix the worship of the true God with the worship of any other god more than you can mix oil and water. It cannot be done. There is not room for any other throne in the heart if Christ is there. If worldliness should come in, godliness would go out.

"Ye cannot serve God and mammon" - Matthew 6:24
Jesus does not say you cannot very well serve God and mammon. Rather, He says you cannot serve two masters at all. If you try, you will surely end up serving only one. The person who thinks he or she is serving God a little is deceived. He or she is not serving God. God will not have that service. The devil will monopolize the person before long.
A divided heart loses both worlds. Saul tried it. Balaam tried it. Judas tried it. Their efforts ended in desperate failure.
For Mary there was but one choice. Paul said: This one thing I do, and For me to live is Christ. Of such a life God says: Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name (Psalm 91:14). God takes a peculiar pride in revealing His love to the heart that wholly chooses Him. Heaven and earth will fade away before its trust can be disappointed. Have we chosen Him only and given Him all our hearts?
Say, is it all for Jesus, As you so often sing? Is He your Royal Master? Is He your heart's dear King?
Most of us grew up hearing it. "Follow your heart." Which means trust your feelings and let your emotions lead. But what if that's exactly what's keeping you stuck? In this week's message, we look at the divided heart, and why feelings without a destination lead to the same exhausting cycle.
