So, I really meant to post these last winter when they were done, but as previously mentioned, the last 6 months has been a mess of liminal spaces and knowing that we were going to move, but not when (it was “next month” nearly every month).
The first one (exterior shiny) is called the Calligrapher’s Case, intended to carry fountain pens/cartridges or dip pen holders/nibs. It’s covered in the glitteriest paper I’ve ever seen that wasn’t actual glitter. The interior is covered in lokta paper. This box was my first experiment in complex interiors, so in typical style, I went for broke. The bottom section, which is what you see when you first open it, has two long compartments and the top section, which has a friction-fit cover that stays closed when you open the box, has 8 smaller compartments of various widths. The top section cover has a tiny metal ring-pull, and the box as a whole has a loop & bead catch.
The second box is so much simpler. On this one I was playing around with surface decoration, with a side order of “this box very much belies it’s contents.” The pattern on the top is cotton yarn, glued to the structure, covered with lokta paper and given a little bit of a paint job, while the interior is covered in a wholly synthetic ridiculously iridescent blue/green paper. Lid is friction fit, and interior has 4 sections.
