Sometimes it gets a bit lonely knowing you’re the only person awake on Earth. Cael has always been quiet, but even now it's hard to come to terms with the fact that being quiet is his only option. Speedpaint
The Centipedes of the new Earth, otherwise known as Canterpedes, are larger than normal centipedes and twice as fast. Their diet consists of berries and mushrooms. Cael enjoys finding these new bugs and writing about them when he has the spare time.
Cael's story is set 900 or so years into the future. In the year 20XX the human race decided that to restore the earth to its former glory, growing back most of its natural resources and so on, they would all hibernate for 1000 years. They did so in these hibernation pods that were built and kept in tall silo-like buildings they call 'life-stations'. Essentially, they planned to cryosleeping so that they wouldn't do any more damage to the ecosystem.
Unfortunately, due to unknown circumstances, Cael's hibernation pod stopped functioning around 900 years through the cryosleep process, and thus he is awake and happens to be the only conscious person on Earth now. Since the pods cannot be opened from the outside he can't get anyone else out, so he's alone until he ultimately perishes. He's 23 years old, and he aspired to be an Entomologist in his old life, but he mostly took records of animals and bugs as a hobby. Through the 900 or so years that the Earth had time to regrow through, animal species evolved quite quickly and so did the fauna of earth resulting in a plethora of new creatures and plants. Giant new forests and strange biomes cover the land and most of what humans left behind is destroyed.
Cael explores and documents his new findings in this world, even though he knows no one will ever see evidence of his dwelling here.

The Lantern Bug-
A supposed evolved form of the typical lightning bugs (fireflies), lantern bugs span to about 9 inches in length- to around the size of an average housecat. They tend to be passive creatures; vegetarians which feed off of exclusively fruit and other such plants which give off sweet nectars.
As their size may suggest, lantern bugs are particularly lazy animals, and over the courses of their years and years of evolution, have lost the help of their shells to hide their wings, as well as to defend themselves. They are large enough, however, to not have many natural predators- which was possibly the reason why their shells were lost in the first place.
During the colder seasons, lantern bugs will burrow underground, clustering together in large nests to maintain warmth. If one identifies some sort of blinking light- natural, or from other sources- it won’t hesitate to flash back at it; a supposed trait from their lesser, smaller, devolved species Speedpaint
