Hi 👋 I was wondering why you personally believe aces belong in the LGBT community? I believe cishet aces deserve love, happiness, support, respect but I don't think they are LGBT. I really am trying to understand the opposing opinion and would love to know your thoughts and opinions.
right so i have time to answer this now, sorry for the delay.Â
I’m glad to hear you think that, funny enough I do too 😋 however, we differ on the being lgbt thing. I do respect that you’re looking for my opinion from this side and are education yourself on the topic, thank you.Â
now, the thing with aces being in the lgbt community. Some aces use the split attraction model (SAM) like myself - which is where this cishet ace idea has come from. honestly i think the whole cis thing shouldn’t be a part of this argument, cis people are part of the lgbt community there’s no denying that so we should move on.Â
The het ace bit… i guess i can see where it came from, but i don’t agree at all. This discourse has lumped together het ace and aro ace, which from my understanding are different identities. again this is all from my understanding, sexuality is a personal thing and i don’t claim to be an expert in way. het ace is someone who is romantically inclined towards the opposite gender, but no sexual inclinations towards anyone. an aro ace is someone who experiences no romantic or sexual inclinations towards anyone. Both of these groups do face opposition to their identities, they face many of the issues that others in the community face. A comparison has often been drawn between bisexual inclusion in the community and asexual involvement. A lot of the rhetoric against their involvement is very similar. basically they aren’t straight, weather they are currently with someone of the opposite gender, that doesn’t make them straight (again the bi comparison)
I also want to say that when i was younger and discovering my own sexuality and identity there was no issue with aces being a part of the community, it’s only been in recent years that all this discourse has popped up. To me aces, all aces, already a part of community, they have been my entire involvement in the community. So to me this isn’t about exclusion, it’s about being kicked out, which is a hell of a lot worse. So those are my opinion on the topic… they may not be totally coherent, but that’s them ^^^
