The most comprehensive civil rights legislation since the Reconstruction era, the Civil Right Act finally gave the Federal Government the means to enforce the promises of the 13th, Ā 14th, and 15th Amendments. The act prohibited discrimination in public places, allowed the integration of public facilities and schools, and forbade discrimination in employment.
But such a landmark congressional enactment was by no means achieved easilyā¦

Sometimes I hear "is it weird to be [blank]" or "Straight is not the default" and I think well statistically maybe it is weird or it is default, BUT, I try to remember things like most of the world not being white, or Christian, or male, and even in the US blond hair is something like 5-15% and left handedness is like 10% and I wouldn't say those things are weird or deserving judgement or negativity.
Anyways I guess it shows that even if you already care about queer people or people with struggles with mental health or any minority, sometimes you have to push yourself to not stereotype or disregard different types of people. Anyways just some stuff I tend to think about and inspired by @braezenkitty

I support Bernie Sanders, despite my conservative family. Iām vegetarian, despite my family always hunting. Iām bi, despite all the homophobia. I hold my own, despite all the sexism stating I should be weak. I fight for my Muslim friends, despite all the Islamophobia. Iām agnostic, despite all the Christians. I will proudly debate any issue I disagree with, and not just let it be like the rest of my family. Iām going to stand my ground and properly flip off the stereotypes that all southerners are straight white cis christian males, because there are some good people down here who stand for the right things.

"Punch Line"
At the age of 14 I had already agreed to be the punch line for a joke that I hadn't even realised was being set up That my existence would consist of in-jokes and one liners about how I'm not as good as everyone else And that mockery was an open bar with an unlimited tab and people planned to flood the place To drown me in their spirits and allow them to be merry
But it gets to a point with all jokes That they stop being funny and start being annoying And this joke is the kid on the bus who won't stop crying And I'm this close to punching them in the throat to shut them up
The joke stopped being funny years ago But someone will still point out that my feminine posture Skinny jeans and fringe make me a "fag" Or that I should definitely go slit my wrists because I need more attention Judging books by their cover may be the least effective way of getting to know the plot But it is the most common Using a persons appearance to decide their future Just puts them further into the closet Deeper underground Just keep digging You'll find exactly what they're looking for Or climb back out and show them who you can be
I've LOVED soccer forever At age 8 I convinced my parents to let me on a team. My father is a HUGE soccer fan so I expected him to support me playing soccer, but he never cared or even came to a game. At age 10 he made me quit because 'it was too much trouble'. Once my brother started to like it, my dad bought him the most expensive stuff, practiced with him, went to every game, and bragged about his 'soccer playing son'. I'm 15 and I haven't been able to play since, just because I'm a girl :(
sorry I couldnāt respond before, I was on vacation :/ That is horrible! I had a similar situation, my parents donāt really want me to play soccer and my dad always says I have to stay home and study instead of playingā¦ So I know how you feel :( Maybe you can explain to your father that soccer is important to you and that you donāt understand why he doesnāt support you. Ask him if you can play again, there are a lot of soccer clubs only for Ā girls! When I was 12 I played in a team only with boys and they didnāt let me take the ball once ābecause I was a girlā, so try to play first with girls :) But talk to your dad, itās important that he understands how you fell! :) Ā
