It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for some of the bolder strays in the city to wander right up to the first human who looked generous enough to part with precious affection, and there was something about Kenji that seemed to attract many rambunctious felines. Maybe the strays had a secret communication network that let them know which humans were more inclined to dole out pets and treats?
The little friend vying for his attention now was a lot more persistent than most. He was engrossed in a newspaper while treating himself to a well-deserved snack break in the park, but the bundle of fur and claws rubbing at his pant legs reoriented his priorities instantly. Without thinking too much of it, he bent over, tentatively reaching to see if this particular cat was the sort to enjoy scratches behind the ears.
“Huh. Could just be my imagination, but you look a little familiar to me...”

From their spot huddled together on the table, one of her own cats poked a head out from the pile. Poppy herself was busy on the laptop, pondering local shelters and looking for any missing reports. “You don’t have a microchip, buddy, but I wanna at least wait until the rain stops...you don’t wanna be wet, do you?” She glanced at her arms - those wounds he inflicted were almost gone, but he was a cat, right - a normal cat, for once in her life. It’s not like he would notice.
[”You know.”] One cat arched her back and leaped down from the table. [”If you really want out, she’ll let you. But that means...”] Her tail flicked towards the makeshift extra litterbox setup, and, more importantly, the nice bowl of premium canned food sitting in it. [”It means no easy meal, human.”]

Tutu winced as his fingers dug into the skin beneath her feathers, before being pulled closer. Her heart raced wildly under her bodice, and the feathers in her hair and on her wings fluffed out involuntarily. Trying to mask her fear with anger, she looked defiantly up at him. shoulders stiffening.
“Wh-- S-Something you want?? What do you mean?”
Ok I know the last couple of plans didn’t work out but hear me out here: You replace my bones with knives. Then when someone tries to punch me they get cut on the knives. It’s flawless.
That’s a great plan, provided you like constant terrible pain, being a motionless jellyfish and catastrophic internal bleeding. But you know, flawless.
