Precious asker (again). He was brand new (I've had him for about a day and a half). The last person that answered said he was just getting acclimated to his new environment. He's not acting sick, just nervous about being in a new place. I just didn't know if spraying him with water to give him somewhat of a bath would freak him out or if if would help some in getting him to the point where I'm not longer a threat. He's calmed down a lot since this morning and even ate a little bit. He's from a
(2/2)Â Pet store so the other birds pooped on his tail. It was there when we got him.
Hi,
It could very well be that he’s still getting acclimated; I am glad he ate, but I would maybe hold off on the bath still. It’s probably best to give him a little longer to acclimate.Â
Once he’s calmed down, spraying him gently with lukewarm water (in a room where he won’t get too chilled, so no direct fans, A/C, etc) is probably OK, but see how he responds before you get him soaking wet. If he reacts negatively (shies away from it, doesn’t fluff around in the spray) then maybe ease off. Some birds love spray baths, some don’t. If he’s well, he may preen himself clean before long.
The vomiting would concern me if he was doing it multiple times (I read the previous answer); if he continues to regurgitate, I’d get him seen. I would get him seen to soon anyway, since pet store birds are exposed to more problems as a rule (and it’s always good practice to get a new bird seen by an avian vet ASAP).Â
Keep an eye on him and try to be patient as he acclimates. It’s going to take a little while for him to get used to you, but he will.Â
I apologize if my previous answer seemed erroneous; it wasn’t clear to me from the previous responses that you’d only had him for a day or so (I could’ve read it more closely, I suppose). As I said, it’s still a good idea to get him seen to anyway, since you don’t know what was going around in the store.Â
In the future I’ll either read the responses more closely or let the person who answered originally finish up :)Â
