Maureen had the misfortune of meeting George on the first day of basic training and found him to be magnetic, handsome, and just arrogant enough to keep her from arm's reach. Instead, Maureen made it her mission to beat him at every task they were given. This proved to be difficult, if not impossible, due to his innate ability and, as she later found out, adeptness at bending the rules. Which was something that Maureen could never bring herself to do.

With one, very significant, exception.

It was only three weeks into training that Maureen found herself wrapped in George's sheets for the first time. And although she quickly realized that her fellow soldier was making his way through practically everyone at training, hooking up with him was not a one time thing. (And to be quite honest, despite her assertions otherwise, Maureen never intended for it to be.) While neither was ever under any delusion that they could have a real relationship together, Maureen did form an attachment to George for better or for worse. Perhaps it was her misapprehension that George wanted to be a better man and that with enough patience and calling him out on his bullshit, she could help him become one. Perhaps it was because she was the best lover she'd ever had.

After training, the two were assigned to separate units, and while Maureen lost touch with many of her friends from basic, she found that life had an unusual way of making her and George's paths cross throughout the years. Older, and more confident in herself, Maureen frequently butted heads with George only to find that every argument was eventually settled in bed.

Even after George was dishonorably discharged and seemed to vanish off the face of the Earth, and Maureen's quick ascent through the ranks gave her more responsibilities than ever, she still couldn't deny the electric connection she felt with him. And maybe that was why she still found herself answering his calls and giving him bits of information that could have her court marshaled if anyone found out.

And while she knows he's using her because of her belief that deep down, George is a good man, she's still naive enough to think that maybe, if she is a constant in his life, she can convince him to do better. Be better. After all, she's not the only one who finds him hard to resist, as George always finds a way into her bed whether she's at home or on mission.
