Magnesia, Thessaly || Greece moodboards (7 / ?)
The original home of the centaurs was said to be upon Mount Pelion, a mountain located in eastern Magnesia within Thessaly. Chiron was considered the wisest and most skillful of all centaurs. The knowledge of Chiron was passed on to many famous students, including the God of Medicine Asclepius, and the heroes Jason and Achilles. Jason was famed for his expedition with the Argonauts - as the sailors on their ship the Argo were known - sailing from Iolcus of Magnesia in search of the Golden Fleece far in the Black Sea. Despite being immortal, centaur Chiron would die, for he was caught up in the pursuit of Heracles and the centaurs of Mount Pholoe. Chiron would give up his own immortality in order to rid himself of the pain of his incurable wound. Zeus would acknowledge the greatness of the centaur Chiron, by placing the centaur amongst the stars, as the constellation Sagittarius.
