Peace talks with self. This place is 70 m from my house. Was shut all of last year for some dispute. Happened to go see it only today. The structure is borrowed from the mosque in Cordoba, Spain. What a beauty, but missed in most historical narratives about Delhi. Constructed in the 14th century by Khan-i-Jahan of Feroz Shah Tughlaq, when Khirki ceased being a politically important space. Who knows why construct this here? What did this space mean to historical and modern actors? There are stories about community disputes over this space, sometimes as shelter to homeless, sometimes as a space to contesting political groups, sometimes between communal communities, sometimes as a space meant for mass mobilisation. What is the historicity of such claims? Do we inquire enough? Isn't history in everything we are?
