And I thought a lot about that line, because it bothered me, the use of the singular. Dijkstra used both of them because the torture wouldn’t have mattered if Jaskier hadn’t been with Radovid when it happened. Yet, Geralt chose to keep the focus on himself. Why?

I think it was to spare Jaskier’s feelings. Jaskier calls the experience torture, even tho he isn’t physically injured and Geralt is. Jaskier is also very resolute that he made the right choice staying with Geralt. If Jaskier were to realize that he had been manipulated to make that choice, he might feel shame or doubt or regret. So sparing Jaskier of that realization helps Geralt back up his friend’s feelings. It’s a kindness.

3. Thank you Jaskier, your job as comedic relief is much appreciated. And missed.

Except in TWN universe, Dijkstra does have something pretty huge on Jaskier, and that’s the fact that he’s the Sandpiper, right? I would imagine that smuggling Elves out of Redania right now is probably akin to treason. Is it too much to hope that Dijkstra tells Jaskier he can either bring him Geralt and Ciri or he can hang for treason? Is it too much to dream that Jaskier tells him to Fuck off because there’s no way he’s betraying Geralt? Is it too much to think that Dijkstra will either have Jaskier bring Geralt or lure him there with the threat of death to the bard? 

Can’t a girl dream about a daring rescue of our favorite damsel in distress by his Witcher and Witch? Can’t you just imagine him begging them not to save him because it’s a trap and they just don’t give a crap, they’re gonna do it anyway?

 Imagine that Dijsktra is using Jaskier to get to Geralt and Ciri, and he’s imprisoned him for treason. Now imagine he has to get the word out throughout the north so that he’s sure Geralt will hear about it, and that takes time and manpower, so you prolong the execution for a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, you’ve got fliers and town cries all shouting to the peasant population to come witness the death of the most traitorous, Julian Alfred Pankratz, viscount de lettenhove, aka the Sandpiper, aka Jaskier the Bard.

Okay, and this is where my mind went a silly place. If they announce to all the north that they’ll be executing the person we’d consider the continent’s biggest popstar, isn’t that going to cause quite a stir among the population? Or at least everyone’s wives, mistresses, mothers, nieces, starry-eyed men, etc? I know nothing of popular music, but don’t you think if the government today imprisoned Justin Timberlake for treason, there’d be quite an uproar? 

Can you imagine Dijkstra creating the best laid trap for Geralt, but instead getting an angry mob of fan-girls having an all-night candlelight vigil and refusing to go home until Jaskier is free!
